Pole Dance Class

pole dancing class singapore

If you want to step out of your comfort zone, try a pole dance class! Check out our first-hand review of SLAP Dance Studio where us Sassy Mamas tried it out and were pleasantly surprised at our own core strength – so if we could get on a pole, so can you!

Hire a Close-up Magician

40th birthday experiences - Experience Magic

Throwing yourself a huge birthday bash and looking for quality entertainment? Then look no further than Experience Magic! Jasper Lee is one of Singapore’s more popular close-up magicians, and he’s mastered a unique blend of comedy and mindblowing magic that will impress your party guests. In addition to comedy routines that will leave everyone in stitches, Jasper also does spine-chilling stunts, mind-reading demonstrations and his award-winning close-up, sleight of hand performance that leaves everyone wanting more.

Yacht Charter

Booking a yacht for the day is a great way to get those holiday feels without leaving the country! We’ve got a handy list of some of the best yacht rentals in Singapore, all of which can offer affordable yacht rentals, facilities for water sports and much more.

Escape Room

If you’ve never tried an escape room experience, it’s when a group gets locked in a room (or a maze of rooms) and can only get out after solving clues and puzzles placed all over the room. It may sound a bit intimidating, but it’s fun when you choose one that suits your interests! From themes like The Purge to Victorian-era escape rooms, Singapore folklore and even Time Travel, there’s plenty to choose from at places like Xcape Singapore and Virtual Room.

Stand-up Paddleboarding

stand up paddleboarding sup ventures

This is definitely a trendy activity these days – we’ve been seeing so many of our mama friends try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on the calm Sentosa waters! There are a number of companies who offer SUP-ing, but we heard SUP Ventures comes highly recommended, along with other water activity centres like Ola Beach Club, Aloha Sea Sports Centre and more.

Bash some glass or destroy a TV

Book a session at The Fragment Room if you could use some destressing! This rage room is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and we’ve even seen moms and teens have a good time here breaking glass bottles and smashing TVs in full protective gear – why not gather your girlfriends and tap into your inner Hulk so you can smash?

Group Spa Day

mother's day gifts viva group salon spa keppel bay

A spa day is perfect if you feel like you’ve been on your feet non-stop and just want to relax. If booking a whole day of massages is too much for you (as if!) you might want to do something different! We recently checked out The Salon by VIVA (check out our Instagram story highlights) , a stunning salon and studio space overlooking Keppel Bay so you’ll feel instantly transported into holiday mode. The Keppel Bay wellness destination is complete with its own pilates studio, hair salon and nail salon, so you can get a workout in and get treated to some much-needed pampering with a mani-pedi or blowout afterwards. The Ultimate Girls Day Out Experience is suited for groups of 5 at $199/person, and includes manicures, pedicures and hair wash and blow-dry, champagne and a grazing platter – sounds like the perfect treat for your 40th birthday bash!
Looking for a spa to come to you? Read up on our list of at-home beauty, massage and spa services here.

Virtual Reality

We’ve seen so many videos of this on social media recently and it looks like great fun! We recommend Zero Latency (tried and tested by a Sassy Mama staffer!) but you can also find many other VR gaming centres all over Singapore with a simple online search.

Kayaking

Kayaking can be a fun laidback activity when done in the early hours of the day or at dusk (perfect for watching the sunset!). There’s also mangrove kayaking, which takes you on a tour of Singapore’s mangroves in Sembawang or Pulau Ubin. You can even row to a secret sand bar near Sentosa! A lot of sea activity companies offer this, but you can check out plenty of options on Seek Sophie.

Go on a theatrical self-guided audio tour

Want to experience the city in a completely new way? Some of us on team Sassy Mama have tried out OH Stories’ New World’s End, an immersive 60-minute audio tour that takes you through the historically rich neighbourhood of Jalan Besar. You’ll be taken through alleyways, hidden spaces with art, and beautifully decked-out sets featuring snippets of films by Brian Gothong Tan. Highly recommended for a unique experience! It’s not super social (each person is plugged into their own audio) so go grab dinner or a drink afterwards and discuss!

Throw some axes

Try out your throwing skills at Axe Factor, where you can expertly toss axes across the room with a little ‘training’! This is a fun one to do with the hubby too (plus we heard there’s the option of having booze on site – maybe best after you’ve thrown those axes not before!).

Hire a Drag Queen

This one’s for the Rupaul’s Drag Race fans! We’ve spotted local drag superstar Vanda Miss Joaquim performing at a private birthday party on Instagram recently and it looked like SO much fun. Slide into her DMs for rates or email for enquiries!

Celebratory Workshops

Art jam

art jam

We tried an art jam as a team recently at Ki.Li.O ART and it was fab! The studio provided all the materials and inspiration we needed (including several files containing various images and artworks to choose from) so all we had to do was turn up and get painting! Their instructors even gave us tons of guidance so we could create professional-looking art we would all be proud to take home. Some studios also provide refreshments and nibbles while you ‘jam’, so make sure to ask about this before you book a session!

Bath Bomb Workshop

You probably wouldn’t think to make your own bath bombs, but imagine the amazing smells you could be working with in this workshop! Some places that offer this are Soap Ministry and Soaprise. Then book a staycation so you can put those bath bombs to good use in a fancy hotel tub!

Cooking or Baking Class

If you fancy yourself to be quite the foodie and love cooking or baking, taking a class with friends will be a blast! We highly recommend Brettschneider’s Baking & Cooking School, from the folks that brought us the popular Baker & Cook cafés! We’re talking breads, butter, cakes, pastas… how better to celebrate a birthday than with lots of noms?

Calligraphy

Do you also find calligraphy videos to be incredibly satisfying to watch? We’re huge Insta-fangirls of The Letter J Supply, which has tons of cool calligraphy workshops that will ensure you too can have the prettiest birthday party invitations or the best handwritten envelopes for life!

Pottery Class

Create your own unique vases, pots, plates or trinket trays with a pottery class! It can be incredibly therapeutic (handling clay can give you an immediate sense of calm!) plus you never know what you’re capable of making till you try. We’ve tried Mud Rock Ceramics (we heard they’ve been commissioned by a few of Singapore’s best restaurants to create their dinnerware) and of course look to Thow Kwang Pottery, home to the last surviving dragon kiln in Singapore and is well known for their amazing range of pottery available for sale!

Fancy Dinner Ideas

Rooftop Dining

restaurant and rooftop bar in singapore Ce La Vi on MBS

Dining at rooftop bars and restaurants in Singapore is always a special experience – at dusk we get to see the sunset from a skyscraper, and at night we’re treated to a twinkling light show from all the stunning city lights! Check out our list of the best rooftop bars and restaurants to book your birthday dinner with the hubby or your girls!

Private Room Dining

A number of local restaurants have lovely private dining rooms so you can dine with your girls without worrying about nearby eavesdroppers (or if you don’t want to bother other diners in case you get a little too loud!). If you have a restaurant in mind, call in to ask if they have private rooms. Some faves include Italian Amò, steak spot 665ºF at Andaz Hotel, Fat Cow, sen-ryo and LeVeL33.

Hire a Private Chef

Enjoy dinner from the comfort of home with a dinner party – but not with delivery, but dinner prepared by a private chef! We’ve had great luck with NonyaBong (delicious authentic Peranakan food) and have heard great things about Relish.SG, among others!

Obviously, some of these ideas will have to wait until restrictions are relaxed. Fingers crossed your birthday falls later in the year or you could do multiple celebrations in smaller groups!
