Singapore may have an abundance of kid-friendly activities, but there’s nothing quite like taking the kids to the theatre! We are excited that Disney’s Frozen the musical will be in SG next Feb, plus there are lots of other theatre shows to book from The Gruffalo to Pinocchio! Whether you just love experiencing kids’ shows in Singapore for the performances, costumes and acting or whether you have budding actors who are in drama class and want to see the live action, here are some awesome kids’ theatre shows to look out for! 1. Candlelight Concerts

The Candlelight Concerts are a wildly popular series of live, intimate concerts featuring classical musicians performing in dreamy locations, surrounded by hundreds of candles (battery-operated ones of course, for safety reasons!). These concerts have taken place in the S.E.A Aquarium, CHIJMES and other pretty locations around town.

2. The Gruffalo Live on Stage!

Join Mouse, the cunning Fox, the eccentric Old Owl, the Snake and of course, the Gruffalo on this hour-long adventure at Victoria Theatre! This kids’ theatre show is a musical adaptation of the classic children’s book, The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. Dive into the tale of the Gruffalo as the characters take the stage with songs and adorable costumes.

3. Dance Appreciation Series: Introduction to The Nutcracker!

Singapore Ballet and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay present Dance Appreciation Series: Introduction to The Nutcracker! An hour-long ballet specially curated for little ones, introduce your kiddos to the world of ballet with this very special show! Beloved characters, Clara, the Snow Queen, the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, return to the stage and will most definitely dazzle kids. Don’t forget to dress your little one up in their favourite costumes and snap a picture with the cast at the meet-and-greet session after the show!

4. SSO Babies’ Proms

SSO Babies’ Proms is back! Dive into the amazing world of orchestra as kids and parents experiment and discover different instruments. With 30 minutes of pre-concert activities followed by an hour long concert, strap in for an evening of fun as kids discover the different sounds and melodies of an orchestra.

5. The Nursery Rhymes Project 3

The Nursery Rhymes Project is back! Created by local artists and presented by Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and The Theatre Practice, The Nursery Rhymes Project 3 will compromise of three sections: Sing Our Songs (music album), Paint Our Songs (illustrated lyric book) and Imagine Our Songs (live performance).  The newest instalment features 12 Mandarin nursery rhymes recorded by Singapore’s top music talents and children from the Practice Education Project.  (Ah Guo). Head over to the performance Imagine Our Songs to see characters Kaya, Roti and their new friend Kopi, as they sing and dance their way through two brand-new stories – Pull The Radish and The Rabbit In The Desert. Limited edition signed copies of The Nursery Rhymes Project 3: Paint Our Songs lyric book will also be available for purchase during the launch event.

6. The Anywhere of Everything, No Matter the Time

The Anywhere of Everything, No Matter the Time is a performance and installation created by Swedish based choreographer Dalija Acin Thelander and will run from 15-30 October 2022 at Goodman Arts Centre Blackbox. It is specially designed for pre-walking babies and neuro-divergent young children with additional mobility needs, who would enjoy music, movement and sensory objects in an aesthetic setting, along with their carers. This 2-hour durational piece is the first of its kind for young audiences in Singapore, where there is no fixed beginning or ending for the performance. Within the installation-performance, audiences are free to move around and experience the show as they wish – sitting, lying, crawling, rolling, resting.

Age: Pre-walking babies (from 6 months and up) and neuro-divergent young children with additional mobility needs. Not suitable for independent walkers and explorers.
When: 15 – 30 October 2022, Tuesday – Friday, Mon (24 Oct, PH): 9.30am to 11.30am, 1pm to 3pm; Saturday & Sunday – 9.30am to 11.30am, 1pm to 3pm, 4pm to 6pm.

7. Kids’ theatre: Hare and Tortoise

The classic tale of the Hare and the Tortoise is reimagined in this modern take from Singapore Repertory Theatre. Telling the tale of Harri and Tatta, come along for an adventure as these frenemies are forced to travel together in a race. With tons of interesting characters littered throughout this kid’s theatre show, this retelling of the Hare and the Tortoise will entertain and teach little ones valuable lessons about life.

8. Family show: Slava’s Snowshow

9. Family-friendly musical PINOCCHIO

Wild Rice presents PINOCCHIO a super family-friendly new musical about a puppet who longs to become a real boy. This proudly Singaporean adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s classic Italian fairy tale is a hilarious, heartwarming celebration of family, friendship and the importance of being true to yourself. This brand-new holiday musical also features the First Stage Kids back on stage. Aged 5 to 12, these adorable child performers have long been a highlight of Wild Rice’s holiday musicals.

10. Family theatre show: The Sound of Music

Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do! Join Maria and the von Trapp children at the Sands Theatre for the beloved musical The Sound of Music! This family musical is based on the 1995 Sound of Music movie starring Julie Andrews where 7 Von Trapp children and eventually their widowed father are all won over by the enchanting new governess, Maria.  Featuring nostalgic songs that kids are sure to love, some humour and stellar performances, this family musical is one we are really looking forward to watching! 11. Family theatre show: Disney’s Frozen The Musical

For the first time in forever, Frozen, Disney’s hit Broadway musical will be coming to Singapore – the only Southeast Asian stop on its world tour! Adapted from the Disney film, this popular kids’ theatre production features 12 new songs from the original award-winning songwriters. Hands up if you can’t wait for Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven to bring Arendelle to the Sands Theatre! Online performance: Remember Rainforest: The ARTS FISSION Company

Be enthralled by Remember Rainforest, a magical show made for kids and families on the poignant issue of deforestation. This show will be available for online live streaming where families can watch the children performers from the arts granary dance programme. Meet the Child Hero, the Ancient Tree Spirit, the Forest Shaman and other wildlife in the forgotten rainforest.
