Decor & Costumes: Daiso
The $2 emporium never ceases to amaze us with its endless wonders. You’ll find all sorts of bits and bobs perfect for quirky costumes at Daiso – cat ears, Harry Potter glasses, sequined shower caps – but in the lead-up to Halloween, there are usually holiday-themed decorations and costumes prominently displayed at the front of the store near the cash registers. This is one place where it definitely pays to show up early; we’ve been there on the Saturday of Halloween weekend and the word “dregs” would be charitable.

True, the neutral colour palette and home basics don’t exactly scream Halloween, but we’ve come across the occasional cute Halloween decoration item at MUJI, including the adorable cat masks pictured above, plus various craft supplies and spooky animal cookie cutters that are perfect for home DIY projects with kids.
