School holiday camps should be fun right? That’s exactly what Saturday Kids has in mind with their focus on teaching kids to “learn how to learn through play”. So that means no tests, no exams, no one right answer; experimentation is encouraged and failure is framed as an important part of the learning process. Saturday Kids is Singapore’s first coding school for kids, so it’s a great place for kids to delve into the world of code. New courses this season include Invent the Future with LEGO and Design Thinking – great for kids ages 7-10 with experience in Scratch. 5-6 year olds can join an introductory course to learn about the wonders of code through a combination of tangible and on-screen programming with Bubs & Bees: Take Off with Beebot and Scratch Jr. Preschoolers can then progress on to Tiny Travellers: Adventures on Code Island, which prepares preschoolers to take on block-based coding by developing their understanding of basic programming concepts with help from Sammy the robot and Hopscotch. Stay tuned for numerous social initiatives for kids who attend camps to give back to less-privileged children (fun fact: Saturday Kids also runs Code in the Community, Singapore’s largest free coding programme for disadvantaged kids).
