Looking for an easy (no flights required!) weekend getaway for some sun and vitamin sea? Bintan’s blue waters are calling!

There’s never been a better time to be more grateful for living in Singapore. We’re close to some of the best beach holiday destinations (some don’t even require flights!) that we’re actually spoilt for choice! Bintan is one of those fab spots, being just a short ferry ride away from our little red dot.

With baby on the way, my girlfriends and I knew we had to squeeze in one last girls’ trip before I pop. So when the folks at Bintan Lagoon Resort reached out to ask if we’d check out their new 2D1N Jazz-capade package, we were stoked to see how it had changed since our last visit!

Getting there

The first thing we were excited about was the direct ferry ride. Bintan Lagoon Resort has its own dock, meaning that ferry rides from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore will take you straight to the resort without the need to go through Bintan’s ferry terminal – a fuss-free option for mamas and dads traveling with their littlies. Ferry tickets can be purchased via www.ferryful.com. A quick 75 minutes on the ferry and you’re welcomed by the resort’s pristine beaches and clear blue waters.

We snagged a Deluxe Sea Facing Room, which was spacious and comfortable with a beautiful view to boot. The platform within the room was perfect for lounging, and doubles as a massage bed for when you book an in-room massage treatment (more on that later!). It’s also great for setting up a cot or extra bed for your kiddos, which are available upon request.

Dining

The highlight of our trip had to be the Jazzy Saturday Brunch at the resort’s beachside restaurant, Nelayan. Featuring a sumptuous range of dishes, the semi-buffet brunch lets you order off a special menu with the freedom to pick your favourites off the buffet line. Gourmet dishes include Steak Tartare, Butter Shoyu Grilled Scallop with Salsa Verde, Hyderabadi Briyani of Duck alongside local Bintan and Indonesian delights, chilled fresh seafood and sushi, seasonal cheese, artisanal breads and an irresistible dessert spread. You can also choose from a selection of Champagne and wines from well-known regions like France, Australia and Italy.

All this while the smooth jazz sounds of Spyro Gyra, George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Incognito and top jazz artistes fill the air against a perfect backdrop of the white sandy beach! The relaxing island ambience made us feel miles away from the hectic city life, and the soothing live music helped get us in the mood for a weekend of zenning out.

There are various other restaurants to try in the resort (14 restaurants to be exact), including Fiesta (where the breakfast buffet is served every morning with a stunning view of the sea), Miyako for Japanese fare, and Terrace Sports Bar for bar bites and yummy cocktails.

Facilities

While the resort plays host to multiple land and water activities (perfect for families with active kids), we chose to kick back and relax, and indulged in out-of-this-world beachside massages and facials at the Kedaton Day Spa. You can also book a massage treatment straight to your room, which is offered 24 hours, so you can get a massage in as early or as late as you like!

If you need the kids occupied, head over to the leisure centre and check out the Kids’ Club, which has plenty of toys to keep kids busy and little nooks for nap time. Nearby, little ones can also try crafts like batik painting (at an extra cost). The Kids’ Jungle Gym is also a popular spot, and will tire kids out with its ball pit and indoor playground. Golfing is also a huge driver, with the resort’s world-renowned 18-hole golf courses often drawing golf enthusiasts from all over the region to the resort.

Make sure you get a photo op at ‘Stairway to Heaven’, a little hill overlooking the beautiful beach!

Overall, we found the Jazz-capade at Bintan Lagoon Resort to be the perfect little holiday we never knew we needed. Plus points for the direct ferry transfers, and the fact that we felt so far away from Singers despite being in Bintan! We were told that the resort was almost fully booked for the weekend (it was the last few days of the March holidays after all), but we didn’t feel it was crowded at all due to the sheer size of the resort. There are so many activities within the grounds that everyone’s occupied.

We’re definitely keeping this idyllic resort in mind for future getaways (maybe with baby next time!).

Bintan Lagoon Resort’s 2D1N Jazz-capade package is available at IDR2,000,000 (about S$192)/pax and includes a 2D1N Deluxe Room stay, two-way ferry service, Jazzy Saturday Brunch at Nelayan with free flow soft drinks and buffet breakfast at Fiesta!
