Don your best red-and-white outfit and celebrate safely at home with our guide to the virtual National Day 2020 celebrations
Celebrate what it means to be a Singaporean (and if you’re not Singaporean, simply celebrate all the reasons you love our Little Red Dot!) this 9 August in true red-and-white fashion! We may not be watching NDP 2020 at the floating platform or flocking to fireworks-viewing spots like we have in past years, but the Singapore spirit can continue to live on right from home.
One thing that really makes an NDP celebration is the Funpack! For NDP 2020 Funpacks will be made available for collection at community clubs and residents’ committee centres for some 80% of households in Singapore. Each bag will feature designs by artists with disabilities and Primary 5 pupils, and can be reused afterwards as we commit to being more eco-friendly as a nation.
The NDP 2020 Funpack is totally on-trend, and includes:
- Hand sanitiser
- Face masks
- A full-sized cloth Singapore flag and a handheld Singapore flag
- Iron-on flags that can be attached onto reusable face masks
- Red-filter mini stickers that can be affixed to phone torches for a “light up moment” on the evening of the NDP
- Temporary face tattoos
- A pledge card to encourage Singaporeans to take action towards worthy causes and express their appreciation to frontline Covid-19 workers
- Snacks and canned drinks provided by local food and beverage companies
- A Singapore Together commemorative magnet
NDP Funpack collection details to come!
Turn on your TV or tune in online on 9 August 2020, 10am as the NDP 2020 celebrations kick off! Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will first address the nation with his National Day 2020 Message, followed by a live stream of the parade at the Padang featuring:
- An aerial display comprising a flypast of the state flag and a ‘roar of unity’ by F-15 fighter jets
- The presidential gun salute
- A maritime sailpast conducted by vessels from the Navy and various public agencies
Red Lions & Mobile Column in the Heartlands
Along with the morning segments, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) parachute team The Red Lions will be making “special appearances” in the heartlands. There will also be a mobile column of SAF and Home Team assets moving across the heartlands in the morning, so kiddos who love big trucks, tanks and other vehicles should take note!
Keep checking back as we update you on more details on the heartland locations.
After the exciting morning segment, NDP 2020 has prepared a variety of bonding activities for the whole family to try at home in the afternoon. Details have yet to be announced, but we heard there’ll be everything from cooking to workouts! Here’s what else is in store:
- Pledge activities
- Wave your flag
- Frontline fighters Recognition
- Arts & crafts
- NDP cooking activity
- Light up moment
