Best things to do at HortPark

Playgrounds at HortPark: Sand pits, climbing nets & more

One of the best kept secrets about HortPark is that it’s home to not one but three different outdoor playgrounds, all within a short walk of each other in the centre of the park. It’s perfect for keeping different aged kids entertained for a couple of hours.

The first is a sandpit play area with a vertical climbing net and built-in climbing obstacles, ideal for little ones who want to dig, climb and play all at once. A few steps over, the slides and kiddie rides zone keeps things low-key with rocker rides and a see-saw for the younger crowd. It looks simple, but it’s shaded and perfect for letting toddlers run wild while parents relax on a nearby bench.

The most exciting of the three has to be the space net playground, built around the pyramid-shaped “Mini Mars” Space Net with ropes to climb inside. Here’s a fun fact—this structure once stood at the National Museum of Singapore as part of a 2018 exhibition on Singapore’s playground history, before getting a second life here at HortPark.

Nature Playgarden at HortPark

The Nature Playgarden at HortPark is unlike any playground we’ve taken our kids to before. Designed for preschoolers aged 3 to 6, this roughly 3,500 square metre space swaps the usual swings and slides for nine natural play features spread across terrain like sand, gravel and log paths. Children can dam up water in the log-carved Stream, play pretend cook at the Kitchen using dried leaves and fruit as ingredients, or explore a series of tunnels and hideouts in the Magical Woods. It’s a fantastic spot for kids to get hands-on with natural materials and enjoy some good old outdoor fun.

Themed gardens at HortPark: Butterfly Garden, Bee Trail & more

HortPark isn’t just a place for playgrounds, it’s also dotted with themed gardens, each built around a different focus, from orchids to native plants to edible crops. Among them, the Butterfly Garden stands out as one of the most unique. The garden is split into an enclosed breeding zone and an open-air garden planted with nectar and host plants that attract butterflies. There’s even a 30-minute Butterfly Garden Trail to follow, where you can spot different species and catch them feeding, basking, or just showing off their wings. HortPark’s Bee Garden Trail is another standout, dedicated to bee conservation with bee hotels and three distinct habitats to explore. Over 40 species call it home, from honey bees to Singapore’s tiny, harmless stingless bees, best spotted buzzing about on sunny mornings.

Event & wedding venues at HortPark

With beautifully manicured gardens, sprawling lawns, and lush greenery throughout, it’s no surprise that HortPark is a hot venue for weddings, events, and photoshoots! The Event Lawn is the largest option, holding up to 500 guests seated or 900 standing, great for big wedding banquets as well as concerts and corporate events. For a more romantic, garden-style setting, the Scented Garden offers fragrant plants, climbing vines, and a flower-covered garden arch, ideal for cosy solemnisations and intimate gatherings alike.

For indoor events, the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) with stage is a popular choice, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors overlooking the Silver Garden and room for up to 250 guests, fitting for wedding receptions as well as talks and workshops. Beyond bookings, these open lawns double as a lovely everyday spot too, where kids can run around freely when no event is on, making HortPark just as much a family park as an event venue.

What to eat at HortPark

Beyond its lawns and function rooms, HortPark also houses a couple of well-loved restaurants. Vineyard at HortPark has a cosy French-Italian countryside vibe, with a farm-to-table menu using herbs and veggies grown right there in their own garden. Try the mushroom soup, made with locally sourced ingredients, or the duck confit, one of their most popular dishes. The garden setting is what makes it such a hit for romantic dinners and lazy weekend brunches, but that same charm is exactly why couples also book it for solemnisations, with the outdoor deck overlooking a serene infinity pool making for a particularly dreamy spot to exchange vows. It’s just as good a fit for other events too, whether that’s a corporate dinner, birthday celebration, or private party.

Canopy HortPark, a garden-themed, pet-friendly restaurant, is another popular pick, with a menu spanning brunch classics to pizzas and pastas. It’s a great spot for families too, with wide, stroller-friendly paths and plenty of space between tables so kids have room to move around. That same open, laid-back setting also makes it a natural fit for weddings and events, with indoor and outdoor dining areas that shift easily from a casual family brunch to a solemnisation or a corporate dinner.

How to get to HortPark

By Car: HortPark is located at 33 Hyderabad Road, off Alexandra Road, just past Alexandra Hospital and the AYE, with 151 carpark lots on-site at $0.60 per 30 minutes.

By Bus: You can hop on services 51, 61, 93, 97, 100, 166, or 963 from nearby MRT stations like Labrador Park, HarbourFront, Queenstown, or Commonwealth, all of which stop along Alexandra Road near the park.

By MRT: The nearest station is Pasir Panjang, with Labrador Park and HarbourFront also within bus-connecting distance if you’d rather combine train and bus.

Family tips for visiting HortPark

• HortPark’s paths are wide, mostly flat, and stroller-friendly, so it’s absolutely worth bringing one along, especially if you’re planning to make your way over to the Nature Playgarden or take a stroll through the themed gardens with little ones along for the ride.
• As with any outdoor spot in Singapore, come prepared with sun protection like hats and sunscreen, plus water bottles for the kids, the park does get warm by midday. You’ll find vending machines and water points near the restrooms if you run out.
• If little legs, or even grown-up stomachs, need a break, HortPark has you covered with restaurants like Vineyard and Canopy right on-site, both an easy walk from the playgrounds, so you can grab a meal or snack without ever having to leave the park.
