New Brunch Menu at O Batignolles – and it's Family Friendly!

obatignolles

Club Street is not exactly known for being the most family friendly of dining destinations in S’pore (don’t even try to get a pram up and down Club Street mama – impossible!). Narrow footpaths, hills, stairs, and the general fact that most places are closed in the mornings, means it doesn’t rank high on the list of where to take the kids for brunch on a Sunday morning.

Inspired by a recent trip to Paris however, and with the taste of buttery croissants still fresh in my mind (I won’t admit that I might still be pining for Paris, I just won’t), I jumped at the opportunity to try out the new champagne and croissants brunch menu at Club Street’s own French bistro, O Batignolles, with my husband and 3 year old.

Sitting pretty on the corner of Club Street and Gemmill Lane, O Batignolles is a cute French resto designed like the brasseries that dot the street corners of many Parisian neighbourhoods. The breezy street-side terrace is a lovely spot to watch the world pass by — or in our case — watch the cars go by (mamas with little boys will know what I’m talking about!). As there was no air-conditioning running when we went (ceiling fans did keep the air moving a little) our 3 year old did struggle with the heat a bit, despite the breeze!

The new brunch menu has been created in celebration of O Batignolle’s one-year anniversary and is inspired by owner Antoine’s favourite weekend spots in Paris. The premise is that family and friends should linger over a meal and relax into the weekend. The addition of free-flow champagne certainly makes it an indulgent Sunday brunch with the fam — it guaranteed this mama felt very relaxed!

While there is a tiny children’s menu (we counted one item) we found the brunch menu extremely accessible for our preschooler. Pain au Chocolat, Croissants, Blueberry Pancakes, and Brioche with Nutella were all hits with our son and were quickly demolished (there’s nothing quite like a clean plate from your child to know it was a good meal!). Barely getting a taste of the ‘first course’, the husband and I tucked into Eggs Benedict with ham and hollandaise sauce and Eggs Cocotte with bacon and cream. Delicious!

All of this was washed down with a bottomless glass of champagne (for the grown ups of course! ) and orange juice for the little boy. Perfect!

Brunch at O Batignolles was certainly a lovely way to spend a quiet Sunday with the family and is one little eatery that we’ll definitely been returning too soon – perhaps next time for date night, sans kids!

The downside? Families with really little ones won’t be able to get highchairs at this resto. The space inside the bistro is fairly small too so there’s not much room for babies in strollers. That said, staff were very accommodating in moving tables around for other families with young children, and were super friendly with the smallest diners. Space around the outside tables is also limited so it’s best to leave the pram (and maybe even the baby) at home!

Champagne and Croissants brunch is available from 11am to 3:30pm every Saturday and Sunday. $89++ per person inclusive of free-flow champagne, $29++ with soft drinks only.
