Coffee lovers rejoice! There is a new kid in town and it’s in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Food for Thought have recently opened their second cafe in Singapore and for us mamas it is certainly one to love.
Located on the ground floor of the Botany Centre, inside the Tanglin Gate entrance to the Botanic Gardens, Food for Thought manages to marry coffee, cake and child’s play into one cool café, ideal for families with small children.
Complete with a partially shaded outdoor playground (the shade disappears by lunch time), Food for Thought is a nice little spot to enjoy a morning coffee and croissant with the kids. Highchairs are provided and the indoor space is so large that there is more than enough room to bring strollers inside.
Playtime for the kids while Mama has a coffee
The breakfast and lunch menus provide a range of meals that both kids and adults can enjoy – think scrambled eggs with toast, muesli and milk or duo of pancakes – and are generally served in good time. Kids can now order their own menu sets too (no sharing with mama) complete with a cupcake and juice! For serious coffee lovers, I found my cafe latte to be a little on the weak side, so next time would order the extra shot to bump up the caffeine factor.
Sassy Mama Tip: There is no table service — orders must be placed at the counter (take note of your table number!) so it can be tricky if you are on your own with the kids (and can also mean long queues!).

Originally from Australia, Sarah Fennell landed in Singapore via Hong Kong, where she spent 3 years eating Dim Sum and doing laps of the Peak Trail (in between having a baby and changing nappies). Since arriving in early 2011, Sarah set out to explore the Lion City in search of the perfect cappuccino (for her) and playground (for the toddler). All this exploring – combined with her moderate addiction for online media – lead to the Little Notebook blog, Sarah’s very own corner of the web, where she shares her ideas for enjoying family life in Singapore. In between blogging and child wrangling you’ll find Sarah writing for various online publications – like right here at Sassy Mama!
