Christmas shopping is always a lot merrier when done at a special Christmas market, holiday fair or bazaar (ideally fuelled with a little mulled wine and some gingerbread biscuits!). We round up all the upcoming holiday fairs and Christmas markets in town (in chronological order) where you can get your festive shopping done early. There’s definitely a sustainable theme this year and a chance to give back to charity – ’tis the season for giving after all! Some of these fairs offer kids’ activities to keep the little ones busy so you can get your Xmas shopping done in peace while others offer the opportunity to meet Santa himself! The Danish Seamen’s Church is hosting its annual Christmas Bazaar to bring classic Danish Christmas traditions to Singapore. There will be Christmas carols and a live ukulele band within the Church’s beautiful and authentic premises. Get excited for traditional Christmas cookies and unpacking box after box of Danish design, crafts, handmade advent wreaths, beautiful Christmas decorations and delicacies. Foodwise think open-faced rye sandwiches with different meat and fish and classic toppings and classic Danish “apple donuts”.
Kids’ fun: There’s a creative play area where homemade Christmas decorations are created with scrap materials (note: no drop off, parents must supervise) and there will be a visit from Santa to greet all the nice kids with some special treats. Cluny Court’s Christmas Fair and Market spans November and December so there’s plenty of time to get those Christmas pressies bought and wrapped. Buy 2 Save is an annual 3-day pop up sale of preloved designer wear from Armani to Jimmy Choo put on by Singapore Committee for UN Women. So we call this one early Christmas for yourselves, mamas! Update your wardrobe and support a great cause at the same time. Funds raised from Buy to Save 2019 will be channelled to the Girls2Pioneers program in Singapore, which reaches out to girls (in particular from disadvantaged and marginalised backgrounds) to encourage them to take up STEM subjects, paving the way for a more gender-equal society.
