marshmallowtree_DCGTucked away in the heartlands of Telok Blangah, there’s a new hole-in-the-wall cafe that knows how to satiate a mama’s craving for good coffee, delicious sweets and a kid-friendly atmosphere… it’s The Marshmallow Tree! This cute as a button cafe’s signature move is to serve everything (and we mean everything) with a side of marshmallows! Spurred on by the promise of sugary goodness, I made my way down there one slow Saturday morning, preschooler in tow, to take a peek for myself…

IMG_2759This super relaxed, yet intimate cafe is styled kind of like a modern day picnic. There’s astro turf underfoot, a giant garden swing and comfy arm chairs to settle into while you sip your coffee. Designed to fit up to 20 people, there’s also a huge communal table in the middle of the room with ample space to pull up a chair (although no high chairs mama!) and chow down on your morning waffles. The completely chilled vibe mean families are always welcomed, and with marshmallows their main calling card, it’s not hard to see how this lovely little place is perfect for kids. The biggest attraction for mamas however is the giant blackboard wall on one side of the cafe. Oh yes there is…

IMG_2761With a tub of chalk for kids, there’s plenty of space for the little ones to draw whatever takes their fancy! My almost 4-year-old spent much time scribbling (then dusting!) the wall, before deciding that writing his name would be much more fun. It’s a clever idea that allowed me the space and time to finish my coffee in peace as my son was too busy drawing to bother bugging his mama!

The menu at The Marshmallow Cafe is super small and better for an early morning breakfast treat rather than a lunch time meal. With no separate kids’ menu, it’s all about the waffles, the muffins and the marshmallows here. My blueberry muffin was lovely and light without being over the top sweet, and my son loved eating his toasted marshmallows (no surprise there!).

IMG_2760So what was our conclusion of this humble little cafe? It’s a wonderful spot to enjoy a quiet cappuccino with the kids, or to curl up with a book without the wee ones. While there is no space inside for strollers (there’s plenty of space to park them outside), it’s a nice place to drop past for a good coffee on your way to VivoCity or Sentosa (it’s located a 5 minute walk from Telok Blangah MRT station, at the bottom of the HDB apartments).

And after a quiet hour spent here we walked away with our sugar cravings seriously satisfied!
