Tried and Tested: ESPZEN Soccer School

Got a football-mad wee one on your hands? This sporty mama gives two thumbs up to the recent school holidays camp at ESPZEN Soccer School

My son was very excited to be invited to join the December Holiday Camp run by ESPZEN Soccer School at Turf City. Designed for all ages, skill levels and experiences, these camps are all about enjoyment and self esteem, always challenging the kids in the right way. Bertie is 8 and football-mad – so this was a complete dream to be able to play for 3 hours a day!

What I love about ESPZEN is their philosophy to learning football – aiming to stimulate the kids rather than instruct. The kids were all highly engaged and couldn’t wait to go back each day. I have never seen Bertie dressed and ready to go anywhere so early.

The fab coaches Dennis and Dickson (AFC B-licensed coaches) made the week – their skills and attitude with the boys was spot on. They totally created the perfect learning environment and commanded attitude. Without realising it,  the kids were spending the first half of the sessions learning the skills through various set-up drills, then in the second half putting them into practice – all under the watchful eyes of the coaches.

Each day focused on a different skill – comprising shooting, tackling, passing and attacking – then culminating in a tournament on the last day.  The boys were so excited about the last day – and really bonded with each other.  New friendships and new skills gained all round!
