Feeling peckish? With new menu additions, free-flow booze, and kids eat free deals, Yardbird Southern Table & Bar offers way more than just fried chicken

Just over a year ago we could barely contain our excitement when American export Yardbird (formerly called The Bird Southern Table & Bar) launched at Marina Bay Sands. Anchored by a mouthwateringly delicious array of classic Southern dishes like Fried Chicken ‘n’ Watermelon ‘n’ Waffles, Brisket, Fried Green Tomatoes and super tasty Buttermilk Biscuits, it was a caloriefest well worth the splurge.

We’ve now got a few more reasons to keep visiting, thanks to their new brunch menu and weekend specials like Kids Eat Free Sundays (with the purchase of any adult main) and Free-Flow Prosecco and Bloody Marys for just $42++ from 10am to 4pm for Saturday brunch!

We had a ball on a recent visit with a mama friend and her kids: if you’re in the Marina Bay area anyway (say, spending the morning at ArtScience Museum), it’s just a quick stroll down the promenade to The Bird’s bright and airy Level 1 entrance (they’ve got a second entrance within The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands on B1 as well).

Blueberry Pie Pancakes are a must-do on Yardbird’s new weekend brunch menu

Whether you’re after sweet or savory, the new brunch menu will hit the mark: the Blueberry Pie Pancakes ($22) scored with mamas and kiddos alike; a tall stack of fluffy buttermilk pancakes topped with blueberry compote, brown sugar tuille, fresh berries and meringue drops had our little chicks clucking (we kept the bourbon maple syrup for ourselves!).

Maple-Glazed Bacon Donuts (which somehow taste even better than they sound) were another kid fave, and our children were literally hounding the waitress (while still saying please!) to bring them more buttermilk biscuits (honey butter should NOT be optional!).

Decadent Maine Lobster Mac & Cheese at Yardbird

On the savoury side, this New Englander (and lobster snob) gives two pincers up for the Lobster Mac & Cheese, which at $64 is definitely decadent and worth sharing. The lobster (one whole lobster!) was perfectly sauteed — juicy and tender, with succulent claw meat (totes the best part, in my opinion). Throw in the Yardbird’s signature five-cheese macaroni casserole, and it’s worth skipping dinner for.

Just in case you want something a bit lighter (hey, it happens), the new brunch menu also includes The Bird’s take on Avocado Toast (prosciutto and a poached farmer’s egg give it some extra gravitas) and Smoked Salmon Toast (refreshingly zingy with benedictine, dill, pickled shallots, fennel and smoked caviar atop multigrain toast).

The Kids’ Menu, meanwhile, features mini versions of Yardbird’s greatest hits, including a Fried Chicken Drumstick with fresh watermelon; Mac & Cheese; and Shrimp & Grits with wholesome roasted tomatoes, stone ground polenta and chicken jus. We were also quite impressed by the [not so] Little Burger, which features a juicy blend of high-quality short rib, brisket and chuck, topped with ketchup, mustard and cheese (all of which can of course be placed on the side for picky eaters!).

Yardbird’s brunch menu also features their signature Chicken ‘n’ Watermelon ‘n’ Waffles (seriously, just about every table seemed to be ordering it), along with lots of other yummy sweet bakes and savory staples like an omelette and Huevos Rancheros.

Plenty of comfy seating for brunch at Yardbird

Long story short: Yardbird has got something for everyone (including four wholesome and filling salad options!). If your kids have got you stressed (or you’re able to leave ‘em at home), the free-flow Prosecco and Bloody Marys are one of the best booze deals we’ve seen in town. For just $42++ per person, it’s two hours of all-you-can-drink between 10am and 4pm on Saturdays.

Throw in a relaxed, festive atmosphere (gotta love the upbeat American rock & roll) and it’s a pretty perfect spot for a fun family brunch — they even have a nice room for private dining if you want to party down with a group of friends. So gather up the brood and we’ll see you there, mama!

Mention Sassy Mama when you order an entrée for brunch on Saturdays or Sundays and your table will get a free plate of Classic Buttermilk Biscuits!
