Aniba: Middle Eastern restaurant with views

Aniba is a stunning restaurant only accessible by a private lift (from Bonham St Riverfront Entrance) which makes getting there a little adventure in itself. Aniba puts a new spin on Middle Eastern cuisine with its European style and Asian influences. This spot is part Middle Eastern restaurant, part chef’s kitchen, and cocktail bar and is by the same people behind our other Middle Eastern food go-to, Miznon (so you know you’re in for a treat!). There’s something for everyone here, from a Chef’s Selection Menu to the regular menu. Tuck into Arabic Salad Ceviche, grilled Middle-eastern Cauliflower with Tahini and Pecan-Parsley pesto, and sharing mains of Chilean Sea Bass with Freekeh Pilaf or Grilled Grouper, Bouillabaisse with Hummus Cream and Couscous. Don’t miss the stellar cocktails best enjoyed facing the view of the Singapore skyline and river. There’s a great value two-course lunch set at $69/pax with complimentary house-baked bread or dessert with every two sets.

Artichoke has to be the granddaddy of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food in Singapore. Chef-owner Bjorn Shen brings a playful twist to traditional Middle Eastern dishes with a modern, bold approach. Must-try dishes include lamb shakshouka, halloumi fries, Jewelled Hummus and Muhammara for Turkish bread dunking, and don’t skip the Fried Cauliflower and the famous Feta Burrata. We love the casual vibe of this Middle Eastern restaurant and while the old location has now closed, it will be reopening any minute in its new location in New Bahru!

When we get asked where to go for a fun evening out we very often recommend North Miznon! Serving up modern Mediterranean food with a buzzing vibe, North Miznon on Amoy Street is the brainchild of Michelin-starred MasterChef Eyal Shani. The service can feel a little rushed (especially for the first seating) but the atmosphere makes up for it. Foccacia is free and free-flow, best eaten with the hummus and prawn dish, Lamb Shawarma and the Bish Bash salad. Go on Friday or Saturday for the second seating dinner and enjoy the fire surprise that takes place at the bar!

True to their name they showcase 27 dishes that have been chosen to best highlight the rich culinary heritage of Turkey. Think mezze of Stuffed Vine Leaves, Fava and Hummus with pita. Next up – salads, appetizers and char-grilled BBQ dishes like Adana Kebap made of hand-chopped lamb ribs, Dana Saslik -24h marinated sirloin and Chicken Thigh served with chili and Lavas bread. There are many vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options too. We love how they are committed to great suppliers like Butcher Box and Little Farm for the freshest ingredients.

Good food and a light-hearted fun atmosphere? Step this sway! Miznon’s pita sandwiches are somewhat legendary by now. And for good reason. The pitas are fluffy and soft and encompass hearty fillings that are a real meal in itself. Try the pita with egg, sour cream, tomato, and onion or tuck into a pita with cheeseburger, sour cream, chili, pickle, onion, tomato, and a sunny side egg. There are other dishes too, like Fried Calamari or the fun ‘Run Over Potato’ – so simple but so good!
