Mamas, have you ever sat down to get your hair done without your bub in tow, feeling that twang of guilt whilst anxiously glancing at your watch and driving your hairstylist nuts by constantly asking him/her how much longer will it take until you can get those beautiful highlights? I certainly have! The salon is meant to be fun, not stressful!

Well, there’s a pop up event coming up that may be the solution to your conundrum: It’s taking place for a whole month from 3 February – 3 March at Covo Hair Salon, located along oh-so cool Keong Saik Road.

Covo is collaborating with ePloof! – an online children’s toy store stocking exceptional quality products from around the world that’s owned by two mamas, Liz and Reiko. Not only are kiddos welcome to accompany you and play during your hair appointment, but for a limited time you’ll get a sweet discount on both your haircut and the toys!

To give this pop up a mama’s stamp of approval, I thought I’d check it out for myself and brought my active and curious 20-month-old daughter with me (silently hoping she wouldn’t accidentally blow up a hairdryer and pour hair dye all over the floor. Cringe).

I decided to live dangerously and get ombre hair, something I’ve always coveted but never had the guts to try in case it turned out wrong. Moreover, given my VERY thick hair, it normally takes at least 2.5 hours to get my hair done. Carefully timing my appointment with my daughter’s naptime, I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.

The whole concept worked out beautifully, because not only was my daughter entertained by the variety of cute ePloof toys, but the Covo staff were more than willing to entertain her as well! At first I was quite worried by the salon’s cosy quarters, but there was enough room for her to wander around without causing too much damage (thank goodness for the Japanese minimalist design!).

Covo is staffed by a team of expert Japanese stylists. As with a gorgeous bento box (or pristine Japanese bathroom!), there is so much attention to detail and precision, from cutting techniques to how they incorporate your face shape and bone structure into your style. And they use carbonated spring water shampoo to get your locks extra, super clean. I also love that Covo doesn’t charge extra for long hair, which sets them apart from other salons I’ve visited in Singapore.

I’m super happy with my ombre hair, and what I really liked, apart from the service and product quality, was the honesty of my hairstylist, Asako. She was very candid in telling me the amount of time it would take to get my hair done. Hey, we mamas have a very strict schedule, so the more precise the timing, the better we can plan the rest of our day!
