Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse on Mohamed Sultan Road is a great spot for date night diners, take note!

Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse sprung up in 2012, and immediately had people talking about their novel 1.1kg charcoal-grilled Bistecca alla Fiorentina Wagyu T-Bone Steaks. Five years on and they’ve up and moved – only next door, mind, to a century-old heritage building on Mohamed Sultan Road, but interiors have been spruced up and a few new dishes added to their menu.

Bistecca’s new digs are elegant yet masculine. Interiors are largely dark woods and maroon reds, with a wall of exposed brickwork lending some edgy character to the new space. There are leather booths for intimate tête-à-têtes, larger tables for wooing corporates and seats close to the open kitchen at the back. Seductively low lit, Bistecca is buzzing with demure activity even on a Tuesday night.

New dishes to the menu include starters of Barbabietole ($25), marinated baby beets, whipped goats cheese and avocado; Cozze ($35) of wild Australian mussels; and Fettuccine (handmade using only the egg yolks like Italian mamas have been doing for centuries) with smoked pimentón pasta, blue swimmer crab, roasted peppers and lemon butter.

But really, it is the meats that will have you gasping in delight. Many of the tables order a sharing dish of the impressive 1.1kg F1 Wagyu beef ($188), which is pasture-raised in the King and Kiew and Valleys of Australia. If you are going as a twosome, try the Grass-fed Rib Eye ($68), dry-aged from Scotland, which has a delicious crusty exterior thanks to the woodfired grill, and is meltingly tender inside. The Lamb rack from Australia ($60) is another winner of a dish. Sides are extra – from the new dish of Baby carrots, with spiced yogurt, and hazelnut ($14), to good ole chips ($13).

Service is exemplary – something always worth noting – and the food is spot on all around. Definitely a date night place worth putting on your To-Do list.
