Instagram Reels Launches in Singapore
Reels is now in Singapore! This new feature takes a leaf out of TikTok’s book with the ability to make fun, snappy, up to 60-second videos with lots of AR effects. You can even incorporate music and other audio from the Instagram Music library. Reels isn’t just entertaining but can often be informative if used to shed light on educational or thought-provoking topics! Follow us on Instagram @sassymamasg and keep your eyes peeled for our first Reel– we’ll be posting everything from new playgrounds to exhibits, fun ideas for stuff to do with kids and more!

Roving hotel concept: SG Hotel on Wheels @ Downtown East
There’s a new hotel concept in town – and it’s on wheels! And in container rooms! SG Hotel on Wheels is a boutique pop-up hotel featuring 10 container rooms, available for booking until 20 March 2022. This hotel is actually a roving concept and will be docking at various locations around Singapore! The first stop is Downtown East. With five 40-footer rooms and five 20-footer rooms each boasting its own unique theme, this is definitely a nice change from the usual staycations! The smaller rooms are for up to 2 pax while larger rooms can accommodate up to 4 pax. There is no pool on site but staycay prices (which start from just $188) include a pair of tickets to Wild Wild Wet water park!

Singapore Writers Festival 2021
The 2021 edition of the Singapore Writers Festival is back with plenty for little authors! The programming this year features a hybrid line-up of more than 140 programmes, all revolving around the theme Guilty Pleasures. Whether online or in-person, you’re invited to explore your own guilty pleasures, be that a novel you secretly love or a pop song that’s giving you a serious case of earworm. There’s also a whole panel of guest speakers and you can expect some of the biggest literary names on it – think Ocean Vuong and R.L. Stine; Julia Quinn, author of the Bridgerton series; Elizabeth Gilbert, bestselling author of Eat, Pray, Love – and even celebrities like Queer Eye star Tan France, plus Masterchef judge and chef Bjorn Shen. Kiddos aren’t left out either, because there’s plenty of fun to be had, whether it’s storytelling sessions by famous illustrator Ross Collins to writing workshops by acclaimed authors and cooking workshops with Shirley Wong, aka Little Miss Bento! Admission: The Festival Pass Plus (FP+) is priced at $35 with access to all SWF programmes. The Festival Pass (FP) is priced at $20 as a taster for SWF programmes. It includes access to all programmes except Meet the Author & Festival Headliners sessions. Both passes exclude entrance to individually-ticketed programmes. There are select experiential programmes that will be individually ticketed, and these are separate from the programming underneath the Festival Passes. Students can also enjoy Festival Passes at a 20% concession price.

Slurping Good! Instant Noodle-Themed ‘Playground’
First we had a ‘playground’ experience dedicated to ice cream with the Museum of Ice Cream, now there’s something for noodle lovers. The new instant-noodle themed experience playground Slurping Good! features 13 interactive zones over two levels and is an ode to all things cup noodles! It looks like this experience is more about taking selfies with giant noodle installations, though there are some interactive elements. Look out for a 1.7-metre-tall installation of Singapore’s number one Cup Noodles flavour where you can participate in a game to guess the flavour and stand a chance to win a prize. There’s also a “Slurping Good” Noodle Swing and some slides at the Chu Qian Yi Ding Slider where you can submit your own ideas for the next noodle flavour!

KidsSTOP STEAM Festival
The annual KidsSTOP STEAM Festival is back for its 3rd year! Celebrate this Children’s Day with a line-up of both onsite and online activities. Focusing on building a more sustainable world this year, there will be plenty of engaging hands-on STEAM challenges, parent-child activities, children’s and educators’ workshops. There’s the STEAM Play Yard, which will offer 8 activity stations including a Boat Race, Animal Artefacts Interaction, Airplane Engineer and more. Sensory Theatre is a 50-minute show that invites participants on a sensorial experience as Rangers Win and Jo attend to an injured hornbill. All kiddos will get to bring home a Post Festival Kit which will include an Earth Cleaner DIY kit and a design-your-own toy vacuum cleaner kit so kids can learn more about circuits at home!

Hilton Singapore Orchard Invites Kids to Design Children’s Welcome Pack: Top 3 designs will win a Hilton staycay!
Running till 10 October 2021, all kids aged 12 years and below are invited to participate in Hilton Singapore Orchard’s ‘A Greener Singapore’ design contest! The contest calls on kids to showcase their creativity and their idea of a green and sustainable Singapore through their drawings. All you have to do is submit a minimum A4-sized drawing themed ‘A Greener Singapore’ and include the hotel’s name, ‘Hilton Singapore Orchard’, on the drawing.
