Tiny Bites: A for Arbite in Aliwal Street, Kampong Glam

Newbie little sis to the original Arbite in Serangoon Gardens, A for Arbite is a kid-friendly, minimalist resto in Kampong Glam. Attached to the Aliwal Arts Centre, and right next door to fab arts cafe EatPlayLove, this is the perfect place to kick off a little tour of this super-happening neighbourhood. A for Arbite has a decor that’s inspired by lego, with brightly coloured homemade artworks, red plastic chairs and blue and yellow tables, and an enormous chalk board listing out the special offers of the day. Little ones will be handed a jar of little lego pieces to keep them busy while parental units choose from the little kids menu and papa (and mama!) will love the extensive beer selection.

Thumbs up:
The menu has something for everyone, they open early on Sundays for brekkie (9am – hurrah!) and there’s a no fuss vibe that makes you feel right at home. Also, they don’t salt the fries too much on the kids’ items (and include a mini salad!) and everything tastes freshly made. Food comes out quickly and service is friendly and efficient… How fab!

Thumbs down:
We’re reaching here as A for Arbite is a bit of a winner, but if we had to pick on something, it would be that there wasn’t a changing table in the ladies’ loo. Though there are low benches changing room-style that you could use. Oh, and we know we always harp on this subject, but a couple of healthier options on the kids menu would save mama a bit of eating out guilt.

Highchairs:
Yep, those Ikea ones which mamas everywhere know are the best.

Stroller access:
Yes, you can roll in right off the street, no stairs in sight.

How much:
Small bites for sharing start from $12.90, with main courses for around $29. Kids’ meals are $7.90 and include a good-sized main course and a choice of orange or apple juice.
