Show me a girl who doesn’t like being pampered and I’ll show you she doesn’t exist! I’ll admit, growing up I was the epitome of a tomboy. Make up and nail polish? No way! Bring on those shorts and sneakers anytime! But now, as a busy mama of twin boys with quite literally no time to herself, the thought of getting my hair and makeup done, along with some nail pampering was too hard to resist.

Imagine the possibility of getting ready for a big night out, where the only thing you have to worry about is what you’re going to wear (the rest is all taken care of for you!). Why yes it is possible mama with mobile styling service, The Big Blow. And no, it’s not what you’re thinking…

Singapore’s first premier in-home hair styling and make up service for styling on the go is the brainchild of beauty expert, Ellie Sakrzewksi and marketing brains, Mark Bowling. Catering to the modern femme, who wants a high quality service at home (or at the office, or at your hotel room) that saves time but still gets a guaranteed ‘perfect look’, The Big Blow blow dries your hair to perfection, creates the ultimate make up look for you and gets your nails done at the same time.

So imagine my excitement when the talented Ellie came over to give me a makeover – right in the comfort of my own home!

We scheduled the makeover mid-morning on a school morning. Needless to say, by 10am I felt like I had been up half the night and looked like something even the cat would prefer not to drag in. A typical jam-packed day lay ahead of me. If I had to run out specially to get my hair and makeup done, I would have certainly cancelled the opportunity of getting dolled up, whilst wasting at least 4 hours of precious time (starting from leaving the house, being pampered and finally getting back home). But today, all I had to do was run upstairs, wash my hair and I was ready!

Ellie arrived as promised armed with her trusty bags and set up in practically no time. While she started with blow drying my hair, the entire experience felt like I was meeting an old friend – great conversation, pining over exotic destinations like Japan and Africa, bonding over kids and relationships and even chuckling over the slight risqué connotation that The Big Blow conjures up. And all without the need for the mindless small talk that one is usually obligated to indulge in while at a salon!

Ellie had also brought over the ‘hottest’ thing in rollers – new technology that heats the rollers whilst in your hair, rather than heating them before rolling them into your hair. Very cool (pun intended)!

As the rollers did their thing, Ellie started on my makeup. We decided on a light day make up look that would see me through till the evening. There were fabulous colour palettes everywhere, brushes of all sizes and best of all, it was all just for me!

And voilà! After 90 minutes of pampering luxury I was ready to go!

AFTER

The Big Blow After

Picking up my twins later that afternoon from school was a sublime experience – I had traded in my usual dishevelled look for shiny straight hair and perfectly applied makeup and people noticed! I was showered with compliments and all for something that required minimal effort on my part – life couldn’t get much easier.

The Big Blow Perfect Hair and Make up service costs $200 for a 90 minute session at a location of your choice.
