Every year when the Mid-Autumn festival hits Singers, everyone here goes on a mooncake frenzy! Here at Sassy Mama we too go loco over classic flavours; single yolk, double yolk to more adventurous and wacky recipes like chocolate truffle, lychee martini and the list goes on because there’s always a new fun flavour each year. Whatever your fancy, you’ll be sure to find something that’ll suit yours and the family’s palate. Don’t forget to send a box our way too!

Packed in a colourful and stylish acrylic box (a signature), Grand Hyatt Singapore is celebrating the Mid-Autumn festival with five unique and new snowskin mooncakes. Go for the lime margarita truffle with a hint of strawberry or the creamy peanut butter punctuated with the striking taste of sea salt truffle if you’re the adventurous kind. Other flavours in the repertoire includes thousand flower blossom honey truffle; black sesame, Buddha’s hand truffle; Maotai and dark chocolate truffle. Best part of all? All the mooncakes are crafted by the hotel’s pastry artisans and are 100% preservative-free! So if you’re a mooncake lover and you love to try new flavours (just like us!), then these delectable treats are a must-try!

InterContinental Singapore's 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, InterContinental Singapore is releasing a special commemorative box that reflects the diversity of the historic Bugis district where the hotel has stood gracefully all these years. The mooncake tin box features whimsical illustrations by local artist Jacqueline Goh and it’s totally a collectable! If you love to sink your teeth into soft, velvety snow skin mooncakes, InterContinental Singapore is debuting its the Snowskin Tea Mooncake Collection ($66) that incorporates aromatic blends of earl grey and Baileys truffle with white lotus paste, Japanese matcha and the works – a perfect combination that will be a hot favourite amongst tea aficionados. Other flavours include the Baked Shanghai Mooncake and time-honoured favourites like the Baked Lotus Mooncake series, which has accents of mixed nuts for that classic flavour.

Mooncakes are available from 20 July through 27 September 2015 at Tea Hut, located at the entrance of InterContinental Singapore from Bugis Junction, and 9 locations across Singapore including Century Square, Compass Point, Junction 8, Jurong Point, NEX Serangoon, Parkaway Parade, West Mall, Takashimaya and VivoCity.

Another brand that’s synonymous with rolling delectable handmade mooncakes, The Raffles Singapore is ushering the Mid-Autumn festival with a new addition: The Snow-Skin Earl Grey Tea and Pearl Truffle Mooncake, featuring a rich milk chocolate truffle infused with premium earl grey tea. A mandatory purchase from the hotel every year is the decadent Snow-Skin Champagne Truffle and Ganache Mooncake which our Sassy team are die-hard fans of! If you prefer traditional mooncakes, you’ll be sure to bite into soft and creamy treats baked with premium ingredients. Made with white lotus paste, the double yolk mooncakes are generously filled with macadamia nuts, while the single yolk versions are baked with mother-of-pearl powder; known to be full of medicinal and health benefits.

The Cherry Garden restaurant at Mandarin Oriental is definitely celebrating the Mid-Autumn festival! Taste the buttery pastry of the exquisite Charcoal snow skin mooncake with truffle oil lotus paste and egg yolk, as well as the new Traditional Mooncake which combines pecan, maple and praline. It’s like heaven on earth, we say! Another enticing flavour to try is the Lychee martini chocolate truffle mooncake – we’ve heard it’s a sweet, fruity combination with just the right hint of alcohol.

Our favourite family restaurant is always finding a reason to celebrate and the Mid-Autumn Festival this year is no exception. With the SG50 celebrations in full swing too, Swensens is paying homage to this milestone by featuring the Merlion’s emblem on its brand new pastry skin! The improved texture will certainly be a hit amongst many with its signature ice cream mooncakes. This year, they’ve stocked up on six delectable options that celebrate some of our popular local flavours like Crunchy Milo, Lychee Dreams, Yummy Yam and, of course, hot favourites like the Durian Royale and Sticky Chewy Chocolate.

Swensen’s SG50 Moon Gems Mooncake Collection is priced at $35.80 (inclusive of GST) for a box of 4 (with choice of flavours). Available from 14 August 2015 to 27 September 2015 at all Swensen’s and Earle Swensen’s outlets. No pre-orders are required.

Looking for the perfect gift box set of mooncakes? Four Seasons Hotel Singapore Jiang-Nan Chun’s restaurant entices with a new pretty box that’s designed around the good fortune octagonal symbol, each of the four individual boxes within (for baked skin mooncakes) featuring the same shape and design. There’s even a customisable card insert and metallic gold tag that can be used as a keychain too! The exquisite selection of mooncakes includes a curated list of traditional mooncake favourites and new flavours. We were excited to find that the hotel has created a limited edition snow skin mooncake (in red and white no less!) dubbed the SG50 Singapore Sangria, which has been exclusively concocted by the bar’s creative partner Javier de las Muelas. Yummy!

Boutique café chain tcc is hopping on the bandwagon of the Mid-Autumn festivities with their exquisite range of handcrafted mooncakes. Choose from classic baked to delicate mini snow skin novelties (perfect for sampling and gifting!). We heard they’re best served with a hot cup of tea.
