Plain Vanilla in Holland Village: Cupcake Heaven

plain vanilla DCG

I know that cupcakes have been all the rage in South-East Asia for quite a few years now. When we were living in Hong Kong new cupcake shops kept popping up all over the island and whilst some stores flourished, others didn’t survive.

I suppose that’s why I was so surprised to learn of new cupcake shop, Plain Vanilla, located deep in the heart of Holland Village. I mean, I live in the area, frequent Holland Village quite a lot and yet hadn’t come across this hidden gem. How is this possible?

To help rectify this situation I made it my mission this morning to find out exactly where Plain Vanilla is located and boy, don’t I feel like I’ve discovered something really special. Freshly baked cupcakes, available in a wide variety of flavours and the most lovely staff I’ve come across in quite a while.

Plain Vanilla’s philosophy is simple:

“We are dedicated to achieving one simple goal – handcrafting from scratch the finest cupcakes with the best ingredients”

With flavours ranging from cinnamon brown sugar and red velvet to lemon coconut and dark chocolate ganache there is something in this little bakery for every taste. I most enjoyed the vanilla fudge cupcake – a light and fluffy, vanilla flavoured cupcake, not too sweet, with a dark chocolate ganache filling and topped with a cream cheese frosting left me wanting more… Many more.

The key to finding this gem is that it is located on the first floor – you will need to go up the very first flight of stairs directly next to El Patio Mexican Restaurant – in a little glassed area inside the M.A.D about Hair salon. Be warned, Plain Vanilla is one place you will need to return to, if only to satisfy the cupcake cravings of your hungry charges!

Since arriving in early 2011, Sarah set out to explore the Lion City in search of the perfect cappuccino (for her) and playground (for the toddler). All this exploring – combined with her moderate addiction for online media – lead to the Little Notebook blog, Sarah’s very own corner of the web, where she shares her ideas for enjoying family life in Singapore.
