PCF Sparkletots Preschool’s STEMIE curriculum takes learning beyond the ABCs and worksheets, and embraces curiosity to nurture essential skills that help children navigate a fast-changing world.
Parents, have you ever lost count of the number of times you’ve heard your child ask “Why”? Between the endless questions, you’ve probably also experienced the imaginative inventions made out of dismantled toys and cardboard boxes. But that’s exactly what childhood should be: letting little ones explore and discover! PCF Sparkletots Preschool, Singapore’s largest preschool operator, found a way to channel all that curiosity through its STEMIE programme. Here’s how this innovative approach is helping little ones build skills that will prepare them for the future.
Learning beyond worksheets

The STEMIE curriculum takes learning out of the textbook and into real-life experiences. Here, children enjoy lessons that perfectly blend Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Invention, and Entrepreneurship into everyday learning. This learning approach turns curiosity into confidence while encouraging creativity and problem-solving skills that children can carry with them as they grow.
Children are encouraged to explore, test ideas and invent solutions to everyday challenges. This process strengthens critical thinking and executive function skills, which in turn improve focus, planning and adaptability.
Children also get to learn that it’s okay if something doesn’t work out the first time. Teachers continuously encourage students to try again, tweak their ideas and persist until they find a solution, which helps children develop a growth mindset.
Turning curiosity into real inventions

PCF Sparkletots Preschool also ensures that your child’s curiosity and inventions don’t go unnoticed. Some thoughtful inventions by their students include ‘Foggy No More’ by Lim Yu Han Ella, which are eyeglasses with a small, portable wiper to easily wipe fog and dirt away. She had designed it after noticing how a teacher used tissues to clean her glasses, and taking note of a time when her friend forgot to bring her glasses cleaning cloth to school. Another invention–‘Buzz Off, Mozzie!’ by Jonas Lim, Jiong See Yui and Aurora Wong–proposed mosquito-proof clothing to protect families, as an easy way to prevent mosquito bites outdoors or at night.
Through group projects and showcases, children also learn the importance of teamwork, empathy and effective communication. Sharing ideas, listening to friends and presenting their inventions all help to build confidence and social-emotional skills, giving them a strong foundation for future learning.
