Come to our exclusive screening of the moving, powerful film Remittance and help us celebrate helpers in Singapore!
Last month we told you about the fantastic film Remittance, a moving portrayal of a domestic helper in Singapore that’s based on real-life experiences. Now we want YOU and your helpers to see it for yourselves, mama, and are having an exclusive screening on Thursday 7 September at Chatsworth International School right off Orchard Road.
We’ll even have free popcorn! It’s all part of our September celebration of the Sassy Mama Helper Awards!
Starring a cast primarily comprised of actual helpers, Remittance tells the story of a woman named Marie, who trades one set of hardships for another as she leaves behind her husband and children in the Philippines to work as a maid in Singapore. As producer Gwyneth Teo told us,
“Domestic helpers are marginalised in many countries and it is significant that there’s a film that represents their stories.
“Not only is seeing a story like your own a humanising experience [for helpers], but it’s also an educational one for everyone else who doesn’t already understand what migrant workers go through.”
The 90-minute, award-winning film is an eye-opener for employers and helpers alike, which is why we hope you’ll bring your own helper along as well, mama (we’re screening the film at 8pm in hopes that someone can keep an eye on the kiddos after bedtime!). Tickets will be just $5 per person, or $8 for two people if you bring your helper along, with proceeds covering screening costs and expenses for our upcoming Sassy Mama Helper Awards on 23 September. Having recently hosted the Singapore International Student Film Festival (and with award-winning student filmmakers!), Chatsworth International School is a place that’s wonderfully supportive of all forms of cinema in Singers. We’ll also have yummy free popcorn courtesy of JNR Entertainment, just to complete the movie experience! As an extra special treat, cast members will be on hand to answer any questions you might have after the film! Seats are limited so be sure to purchase your tickets ASAP!
