Montessori doesn’t stop at the preschool gate! Parents, caregivers, and educators can also work together to ensure Montessori practices continue at home, creating a consistent and supportive environment for children. This October, House on the Hill Montessori Preschool is hosting a practical Helper Workshop for domestic helpers, nannies and caregivers of children from infancy to six years old.

Building on the success of the Helper Workshop held in May, this session will introduce simple, Montessori-informed ways to support children at home, from encouraging independence and creating calm, consistent routines to communicating with children respectfully. Caregivers can look forward to picking up practical ideas they can use every day, while gaining a better understanding of the Montessori approach your child experiences at school. And to top it off, every participant who completes the workshop will receive a certificate of completion!

House on the Hill Montessori Pre-school, Helper Workshop, 28 October 2026, from 9am to 11am, Hollandse Club, 22 Camden Park, Singapore 299814, www.houseonthehill.com.sg

Ever considered taking a career break to care for your little ones, but worried it could make finding work later more difficult? You’re not alone. A new study by the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO), in collaboration with NTUC Women and Family (WAF), found that while 80% of women who had taken, or were on, a career break intended to return to work, nearly 7 in 10 felt that taking time out would make finding a suitable job more difficult.

The study, “Women’s Workforce Re-entry: Challenges, Barriers & Opportunities”, also found that flexibility can make a big difference. Some 87% of women said flexible work arrangements were an important factor in deciding whether to stay in or leave a job, with some saying they were willing to accept lower pay or seniority in exchange for greater flexibility.

SCWO will use the findings to form SCWO CoLab, which will examine how women can be better supported before, during and after returning to work. The study also kicks off a three-year research-to-action programme exploring issues affecting women, from Women & Work Transitions in 2026 to Domestic Violence in 2027 and Caregiver Wellbeing in 2028. The aim is to help women return to work and find jobs where they can stay, contribute and grow.
