We love us a brunch where kids dine for free, especially when the food happens to be delicious! Find out what makes Mitzo marvellous…

Mamas, today I’ve rounded up two recent finds that I was mighty pleased with. One for a yum cha brunch and the other for pre- or post-dinner drinks and small bites!

Mitzo

First up let’s delve into the weekend brunch at Mitzo, which situated on level 4 of the Grand Park Orchard Hotel. What makes this place that tad bit extra special (apart from the delicious food which I’ll get into in a moment) is the dedicated playroom, thoughtfully designed to keep the little ones occupied while we wine and dine for a couple of hours. Ah… bliss!

The Mitzo brunch spoiled us with delicacies such as spicy chilli lobster served with a fried bun, steamed bamboo clam with minced garlic and stir fried XO abalone with asparagus. Heck, there’s around 40 types of dishes including dim sum, roasts, wok dishes, sea food delights and of course desserts so make sure you head over with a big appetite and hungry kids, Mamas!

Little diners (free for kids under 6 and 50% off for 6-12 year olds) will love the snail shaped escargot cheese puffs, the melt-in-the-mouth Hokkaido milk cheese tarts, the wild mushroom buns and the congee. Of course for the fussy ones there’s always a soup and rice to save the day! Once the kids are full, they can scurry off to the playroom complete with cartoons, cushioned seating, colouring, toys and other fun activities to engage them.

I have to say mamas, my favourite dish here was one of the Roasts — more specifically the Mitzo special barbecued pork. There was just something about it that made it perfect and quite unlike any other I’ve tried so don’t miss this one!

Bago

My next find is perfect for an evening out mamas. Launched just a couple of months ago, Bago (pronounced as “bay-go”) at Lime House prides itself as the only venue in Singapore offering an authentic Caribbean rum experience showcasing the best rums accompanied by tasty bites from the tropical islands.

Sitting at Bago (located above Lime House at the bustling Keong Saik Road) literally transports you to the tropical island life. I loved the music, the vibe and of course the rum and food! Laid back, homey and totally chilled out would be the best ways to describe this place.

If you were amongst those that enjoyed a simple rum and coke over the years it’s time to feel rejuvenated, mamas! Bago’s rum list has over 150 rums categorised and named according to the Caribbean’s three major types of rums — Rum, Ron and Rhum.

There are various innovative cocktails, too, created by Head Bartender Davide Boncimino, who formerly helmed the award-winning bar Mr.Fogg’s residence (named one of the World’s Best Bars 2015) in Mayfair, London. Paired with the delicious Lime House Jerk Chicken Bites or the Jerk Beef Sliders, Shrimps with Mango Chutney, Mini Fries fish or potato fritters you have your night of liming (a Caribbean term which means hanging out with friends) sorted mamas!

Want a personalised unique experience? The “Bago Build” ($25++) is a tailor-made rum discovery tour that allows guests to create a journey based on their preferences from mood to a taste of their choice. Regulars are also given a Bago Rum passport in which they receive stamps chronicling their rum journey. So it’s time to move on from being wine or whisky connoisseurs mamas! Rum is calling!
