Looking to snap out of the same old routine and discover something new? We’ve rounded up our very favourite date night restaurants in Singapore, mama!

There’s no doubt that Singapore’s an amazing restaurant town, but we sometimes wonder if there’s too much to choose from. Nah, you’ve just gotta know where to go, mama. We’ve polled mamas all over Singapore – including our own Sassy team and former That Mamas in the know – to find out which spots have a winning combination of delicious food, romantic ambience and the perfect setting for grown-up conversation. By no means does a restaurant have to be fancy, it’s just nice to feel kid-free every now and again. Read on for our favourite date night restaurants in Singapore, mama, we’ve even provided handy booking links where available!

Burnt Ends restaurant singapore

Burnt Ends
Intimate and very adult (scotch, or at the very least a beer, feels mandatory), Burnt Ends serves up high-end Aussie Barbecue that’s made right in front of your eyes as you sit along the counter and watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen. And nary a highchair in sight! Just be forewarned that they’re stingy with reservations and wait times can get lengthy.

Burnt Ends, 20 Teck Lim Road, Singapore 088391, Tel: (+65) 6224 3933, www.burntends.com.sg

catalunya singapore

Catalunya
Between the absolutely killer views of Marina Bay and legendary Spanish cuisine (encompassing everything from tapas to their famous suckling pig), Catalunya might be as close as you can get to a sure thing for date night, mama. The lighting is dim, the cocktails are strong, and the food is oh-so-delicious: what more could you ask for?

Catalunya, 82 Collyer Quay, Singapore 049327, Tel: (+65) 6534 0886, www.catalunya.sg

Derwish Turkish restaurant singapore

Derwish
There’s something so romantic about all of Kampong Glam – the narrow streets, the music floating through the air, the slight scent of shisa. It’s definitely one of our favourite date night locales, and this Halal Turkish spot is among the best. From the gilded walls and fanciful ceiling decorations, to the absolutely yummy food, it’s a winner all around, mama.

Derwish, 60 Bussorah Street, Singapore 199476, Tel: (+65) 6298 8986

Il Cielo restaurant singapore

Il Cielo
Mamas around Orchard Road love this romantic Italian spot on the top floor of the Hilton Singapore. Besides the lovely views and delicious cuisine, you can also feel good about the fact that they’re conscientious about using only topnotch organic and sustainable ingredients. And – bonus! – road warriors can even pay with HHonors Reward points!

Il Cielo, 581 Orchard Road, Level 24, Hilton Singapore, Singapore 238883, Tel: (+65) 6730 3395, website

lewin terrace

Lewin Terrace
Serving up meticulously crafted Japanese-French fusion cuisine from a black and white nestled in Fort Canning Park, this has got to be one of the most romantic dining spots in Singapore. (We’re not at all surprised it’s a super popular spot for weddings.) We totally rate their amazing degustation menu along with the impressive wine and sake list, too.

lolla restaurant

Lolla
This sweet Mediterranean-inspired spot on Ann Siang Road has what Wine Spectator called “One of the most inspired restaurant wine lists in the world” – ding, ding, we have a winner! What’s more, they take reservations (we know your time is precious on date night and you’d probably prefer to not spend an hour waiting around for a table). While the communal table ambience is cosy, bear in mind that traffic outside is closed off on weekends so you may be pushing your way through some revelrous crowds.

Long Chim restaurant singapore

Long Chim
Our “Foodie Newsflash” columnist Beate thinks this upscale take on street food just might be “The best Thai on the island” – at the very least it’s a gorgeous setting in Marina Bay Sands from world-renowned chef David Thompson. The setting is quite sexy with dimly lit interiors, an asymmetrical wooden ceiling, and a gold and black colour palette. And the drinks? Delicious.

Long Chim, L2-02, Atrium 2, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018956, Tel: (+65) 6688 8888, www.longchim.com.sg

Lucha Loco restaurant singapore

Lucha Loco
This Mexican spot on Duxton Hill offers up delicious food and killer drinks, along with pretty outdoor seating (though it tends more towards raucous than cozily romantic). They don’t take reservations, but if you get there on the earlier side you can usually hear yourself speak at the bar or one of the tables in the back. On the later side, it’s more about going a little crazy to remember what life was like pre-kids. Tequila shots, anyone?

Lucha Loco, 15 Duxton Hill, Singapore 089598, Tel: (+65) 6226 3938, www.facebook.com/LuchaLocoSingapore

My Little Spanish Place restaurant singapore

My Little Spanish Place
Bukit Timah mamas love this place not only because it saves them a trip schlepping into the city, but for its delicious, tastes-home-cooked Spanish food share plates. Of particular note are the five varieties of paella on offer, along with all sorts of fancy imported meats (always a hit with husbands, in our experience).

My Little Spanish Place, 619 Bukit TImah Road, Singapore 269720, Tel: (+65) 6463 2810, www.mylittlespanishplace.com.sg

neon pigeon

Neon Pigeon
This is a fairly new spot that’s among the coolest of the cool denizens on Keong Saik Road, right down to their graffiti-covered walls and occasional culinary “cage matches” (in which hot chefs from around town face off, Iron Chef-style). The cuisine is “Japanese-influenced”, with a nice range of tasting portion-sized nibbles (all the better for staring lovingly into each other’s eyes). Word on the street is they’ve started sometimes taking reservations (huzzah!), and will soon be rolling out a hot new menu.

Neon Pigeon, 1 Keong Saik Road Singapore, 089109, Tel: (+65) 6222 3623, www.neonpigeonsg.com

Ocean by Cat Cora restaurant singapore

Ocean by Cat Cora
Sassy Mama Priyanka has deemed this “the perfect date night spot” thanks to its combination of otherworldly submarine surroundings and delicious Mediterranean-Californian cuisine. She also gives high marks to the service – ever noticed how bad service can totally ruin a date night? – and the thoughtful, sophisticated, yet still whimsical décor. Plus Cat Cora is an Iron Chef, how cool is that?

Ocean by Cat Cora, S.E.A. Aquarium, Level B1M, 8 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa Island, Singapore 098269. Tel: (+65) 6577 6688, website

spago singapore

Spago
The newest arrival to Singapore’s impressive list of celebrity chef offerings, this Asian outpost of Wolfgang Puck’s famous Beverly Hills eatery is a must for mamas and papas who want to see and be seen (or at the very least, see some beautifully constructed California cuisine). From the 57th floor of MBS, you can also drink in an amazing view of the famous infinity pool and the sparkling Singapore skyline.

Spago, Sands SkyPark, Tower 2, Level 57, Marina Bay Sands, 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018956, Tel: (+65) 6688 9955, www.facebook.com/SpagoSingapore

Tamarind Hill restaurant singapore

Tamarind Hill
We recommend arriving to this gorgeous upscale Thai spot in an old black and white before it gets dark, both because it’s up a long, narrow road off Pasir Panjang that can be hard to find, and because you’ll want to admire the beautifully lush surroundings of Labrador Nature Reserve. For our money it’s one of the most romantic spots in Singapore. The food is outstanding (if on the pricy side), and they’ve got one of the most fun cocktail menus you’ll find anywhere.

Tamarind Hill, 30 Labrador Villa Road, Singapore 119189, Tel: (+65) 6278 6364

Tippling Club restaurant singapore

Tippling Club
We think the tasting menu is the way to go to make the most of Chef-Owner Ryan Clift’s fantastical “modern gastronomy”, which makes Tippling Club a fab spot for special occasions (or when you just really need to splash out). Spanning three shophouses near Tanjong Pagar, it’s considered one of the best restos in Singapore – if not Asia – while the bar is equally groovy (no surprise, given the name). The World’s 50 Best Bars ranked in #12 overall in 2013, in fact, so even if you can’t snag a coveted rezzie, you can still pregame with a topnotch tipple, mama.

Tippling Club, 38 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore 088461, Tel: (+65) 6475 2217, www.tipplingclub.com

The Rabbit Hole Bar at The White Rabbit

The White Rabbit
We’ve never had a bad meal at this longtime stalwart near Dempsey Hill, which we suppose is why we keep coming back! The White Rabbit offers up some of the prettiest plating we’ve seen in Singapore, but the food honestly tastes even better than it looks. We’re particularly fond of the outdoor garden bar, The Rabbit Hole, which serves up an artisanal gin menu and romantic, whimsical fairy lights in equal measure.
