Cool de Sac Restaurant and Playroom in Suntec City Mall

COOLDESAC_DCGNot since the opening of AMPED have we been so excited to share the details of a cool new play-space mamas — we’ve been on the edge of our seat to try it out since it opened, and we were finally able to pop along in person to check it out last week. Located on the 2nd Floor of Suntec City Mall, US import Cool de Sac, a huge new soft-play-cum-restaurant is definitely different from everything else out there. Firstly, there are plenty of separate areas and activities to keep your child engaged and having fun, whether they are the arty type, the sporty type, the uber-girly type (yes, nail painting and face-painting are on offer!) or fancy pulling some shapes with a dancing game!

BabyplayRunning along the length of the play area is a full-service restaurant serving up a variety of delicious-sounding meals and they even offer a selection of home-made baby purees for tots on the go. There’s an area for younger kids towards the back (which is well-planned as it’s out of the way of older kids) and there are three good-sized party rooms, all with different themes. If you’ve got an older kiddo there’s a “tweens” designated zone which seemed to be designed more for lounging around, and then there are the two large-ish adventure play zones right near the entrance.

We loved the arts and crafts area with colouring and cutting and sticking supplies (keep an eye on tinies as scissors can be easily snatched!), as well as the chalk area with people-shaped blackboards and the lego zone. Totally cool! The whole place was extremely well-staffed with young black t-shirt-clad attendants, and neat and clean considering the huge volumes of kids due to March holidays.

restaurant_cooldesacAs for stuff we perhaps didn’t love so much? Well, we had been expecting it to be a bit easier to get snacks for our kids, but we found that unless we were prepared to sit down and order a full meal, that wasn’t possible. So we’d definitely hope they can introduce some kind of snack bar in future to dish up some lighter fare like muffins, crackers or fresh fruit. Secondly (and yes this betrays our laziness!) it was a bit hard to keep track of more than one child as the area is large and it’s unlikely different aged children will stick together. Everyone is given paper wristbands on entry and your child is assigned the same number as you and you have to give your mobile number, so at least if someone gets properly lost they can call you!

jungle_cooldesacIn terms of pricing, it’s pretty reasonable in terms of how competitors are priced – on a weekday afternoon you pay $20 for a child aged between 3 and 12 years, or $10 for under-two’s for unlimited play. You know the drill when it comes to bringing socks, and you need to park your stroller at the front rather than bringing it in. Lockers are available for bags, but they don’t actually, um, lock, so don’t bring valuables.

The hottest new thing on the Singapore kid scene? We think so mama. Plan your next playdate now (or wait for the buzz to calm down before venturing there on a weekend as wait for it, they open at 8.30am on weekends so this is bound to be a breakfast superstar).
