Playground, coffee and shade all in one place is possible in Singapore and it is all happening at Spruce Café and Restaurant.
The location and the children’s playground are the two major draw cards at Spruce. Located inside an old black and white, the restaurant is surrounded by lush greenery where visitors can sit outside on the deck and delight in the cool breezes that filter through. Those with young ones will appreciate the shaded and fenced playground, complete with slide and climbing equipment. The biggest disadvantage (for those with kids) however is that the playground is down towards the bottom of the hill and not near the tables. For those with little ones wanting to play, one parent will need to give up his or her spot at the dining table to do the park run.
Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends as it can get quite busy and staff aren’t always accommodating to walk-ins. The children’s menu also leaves a lot to be desired – $5 for ‘plastic’ cheese on a slice of bread, so probably is best avoided. Stick to the coffees (iced coffee in particular = good) and the baked goods and you’ll be ok.
Spruce is one of those places that would make for a lovely morning coffee place for a mama’s group or playgroup. Coffees and conversations for the Mamas and a park run around for the tots. Nice.
