When I read that Truefitt & Hill had ‘landed’ in Singapore I confess I got more than a tad excited. Why? Classed the “oldest barbershop in the world” by The Guinness Book of Records, the brand is associated with old-school luxury, British-style. Translation: an awesome present for my hubby! The quilted upholstery with mahogany finished maple arms and footrest support looked so inviting, I wandered over. But before I could climb into the chair (in the name of research of course!), I was politely notified that unfortunately for the fairer sex, these particular chairs are strictly a male-only-domain — unless of course, I was after one of their famous “Ultimate Shaving Experiences”!

While the idea of living the life of a ‘true gentleman’ and being perfectly well-attended to by their expert barbers (who both hail from Lebanon and have over 20 years of experience EACH) was appealing, I opted to check out the spa room instead. Again, luxuriously appointed, your man of the house can opt to get his nails rescued after those grueling marathons or all that nail biting from watching cliffhanger games on the box – in the privacy of their very own ‘pod’.  Yes, this is no ordinary barbershop and feels much more like a gentlemen’s club where men can truly savour the ritual of shaving in a very masculine environment — where he can ALSO get his shirt pressed, shoes shined (complimentary!) and even freshen up in the shower room if he is on his way to meet you for a romantic dinner! What’s not to love?
