Sophie La Girafe has been charming mamas and bebes alike for decades; now that same safe, all-natural quality can carry over to bathtime, too!

Sophie La Girafe is obviously a nursery fixture the world over – what teething baby doesn’t love its soft, vanilla-scented texture and sweet giraffe face that engages all five senses? Mamas, of course, love that it’s still made in France from 100% naturally derived rubber, without any nasties.

So when I heard that the brand was launching a new line of natural and organic skincare for babies and children for the first time in Singapore, I was intrigued. Would they merely be slapping their name on some new products, or would the same care and effort that goes into producing the teething toy carry through?

At the recent Singapore launch held last month at escentials at Paragon, the creator of the range, Finnish mama Jonna Jalkanen, was on hand to talk about what sets it apart, along with the care and love that went into its development.

With experience as the Beauty Editor at ELLE along with stints at Parfums Givenchy and Parfums Christian Dior in France, Jonna knows her way around effective beauty products. She worked with Sophie’s founders, R&D directors, chemists and dermatologists to craft a range that can support and protect delicate newborn skin.

At minimum, 99.4% of ingredients are of natural origin. All products are 100% vegan and free of allergens. They’ve also earned the impressive ECOCERT label, which ensures that skincare and cosmetics meet a minimum standard of 95% natural origin, along with other high standards regarding biodegradable packaging and sustainable and environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes.

So, all good on the ingredients front, mama. Rest assured that Sopie didn’t just slap their name on skincare products; these have been carefully crafted and curated. But how do the products work?! I’m happy to report that my sensitive skin toddler is LOVING her Sophie bathtime ritual.

The SLG Baby Bubble Bath has been a huge hit with its big, foamy bubbles, while I appreciate that it’s nearly odorless (just a hint of coconut, lavender and white tea) and has been super gentle on Maggie’s skin. It’s been a great companion with the Hair & Body Wash, an extremely gentle product with a rich-yet-subtle foam that never irritates young eyes.

Jonna and another Sophie La Girafe expert on hand also touted the soothing Baby Oil, which is not only absolutely wonderful for a warming baby massage, but doubles as a fab, ultra-gentle cleanser for use on baby’s body and face. As a bonus, it also works wonders for pregnant mamas to help keep the belly skin supple. Score!

All Sophie La Giraffe Baby Products are priced between $30-$35, which isn’t cheap, but the high quality and little-goes-a-long-way ethos make it palatable, I think. I’ve really struggled finding a good, junk-free bubble bath, and this one’s a keeper! Escentials also offers a Baby Starter Kit with mini travel-size versions of all the products if you want to give them a try, mama. The gorgeous packaging also makes for a lovely baby shower present (hint, hint, friends!).

So if your baby’s skincare could you a little je ne sais quois, now you know where to look!
