How much do your kids know about our planet, mama? Learn more at Imaginarium: To the Ends of the Earth, Singapore Art Museum’s latest edition of their annual well-loved kid-friendly exhibition!
One of Singapore Art Museum’s most popular exhibitions, Imaginarium is back to open our eyes to the wonderful world of contemporary art! Running from 6 May – 27 August 2017, the 2017 edition is a whimsical introduction to stories and ideas about our land and surroundings, both real and imagined.
Through tactile and interactive artworks, Imaginarium: To the Ends of the Earth will be introducing new ways of seeing and experiencing the world around us. Get ready for a stellar opening weekend mama, starting with a preview tour on 5 May, followed by an open house on 6 May (where entry is FREE!), and a series of performances and workshops on 7 May! Expect artist performances and workshops, live portrait sessions by illustrators from Organisation of Illustrators Council, lots of yummy food and a children’s craft fair (things made and sold by kids, with proceeds going to charity).
On top of immersive and inspiring artworks as well as award-winning short films and animations from around the world screened daily at the museum cinema, there will also be activity corners throughout the exhibition for adults and kiddos alike, including:
- Colouring activity on worksheets designed by Indonesian artist Eko Nugroho
- Mobile-making activity, inspired by Thai artist Unchalee Anantawat’s magical, suspended dreamland
- A reading corner with books about how we adapt to real and imagined lands and environments, including Where the Wild Things Are (Maurice Sendak), Around the World in 80 Days (Jules Verne), The Lost World (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) and more!
- A discovery trail around the museum with special Imaginarium binoculars, to hunt for Singaporean artist Calvin Pang’s minuscule clusters of mushrooms!
There will be a series of public and educational programmes as part of Imaginarium: To the Ends of the Earth, including after-hours curator-led tours for the family on 7 & 21 June, toddler art workshops (every Tuesday and Saturday), and more. Check back on the SAM website for more programme updates, mama!
