Looking for a student care centre in Singapore to make sure your kids are well taken care of after school? Here’s our helpful guide, including info on subsidies, locations and student care fees
While preschool and kindergarten-aged children have childcare centres, primary school and lower secondary school-going children have student care centres. Student care centres provide safe, conducive environments for children who don’t have care arrangements at home during after-school hours or school holidays. At student care, children get to fill their afternoons with holistic activities and after-school programmes and more importantly, complete their homework so they won’t have to do it in the evenings at home! In addition, student care centres provide meals too.
On top of homework supervision and meals, different student care options provide after-school programmes like music, sports, outdoor play and field trips!
Types of Student Care Centres
All MOE primary schools have a school-based student care centre. These school-based student care centres make it easy for kids to go from their classrooms to student care without leaving the school! Only children from primary school can enrol in the school’s student care. If your child is already enrolled in a primary school, you can check with the school about the student care application procedure and criteria during orientation or at any time after your child’s confirmed enrolment. A few main operators of school-based student care include NASCANS, Pro-Teach, Big Heart, YMCA, Morning Star and Commit Learning.
Community-based Student Care Centre
If the school-based student care is fully subscribed, you can consider a community-based student care centre near your home or your child’s school. This could mean your child will have to head to the student care centre themselves, but it also gives them the chance to meet and make friends with children from other nearby schools, widening their social circle.
How much are student care fees in Singapore?
Student care fees start from $200 per month. You’re likely to pay less if you qualify for certain subsidies at MSF-registered student care centres under the Student Care Fee Assistance (SCFA) scheme. Check your eligibility here.
