Canadian International School’s ever-popular STEAM Fair is back! Get ready for a day of educational carnival fun, shopping and more

For the past four years, expat families from all over Singapore have flocked to Canadian International School to check out their STEAM Fair. Here’s your chance! The annual event is happening on Saturday, 2 March and it’s not just any typical science fair, mama – on top of the wide variety of engaging, hands-on STEAM activities on offer, you’ll be in for lots of fun stuff for the whole fam to try.

For the uninitiated, CIS is big on integrating STEAM, an interdisciplinary teaching approach that stands for Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship (or Engineering), Arts and Math. It’s woven into the curriculum from pre-Kindergarten all the way to Grade 12, and focuses on teaching students how these subjects are connected and closely aligned with what they’ll experience when they enter the working world. With state-of-the art equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters in their stimulating makerspace rooms, the approach at CIS is student-led and hands-on. Everything is designed to motivate kiddos to experiment, build and invent!

The STEAM Fair is a great opportunity for your kids to discover STEAM firsthand and see what it looks like at CIS. Enjoy over 30 engaging hands-on STEAM activities designed for all ages, led by CIS teachers, students and external vendors. There will be activities for science and tech addicts, art lovers and those especially curious about maths and engineering. You can also request for a personal tour of the campus!

STEAM Activities

For older kids, there’ll be chances to programme robots and create snap circuits. They can also try pyrography, do drone and aeroplane flight simulations, dry ice experiments, cardboard and straw sculpturing and molecule building.

Little ones can also get in on the fun by building a spiderweb city, creating colourful ice sculptures, spirographs with personalised drawbots, water rocket launching and getting involved in sand exploration and street art. All activities will be held in the enchanting Outdoor Discovery Centre!

Carnival Fun

One of the main festival highlights has got to the be the carnival fun that awaits. Carnival rides like gyrospin, a swing ride, water paddle boats, dunk tank, F1 cars, robot rides, trampoline bungee and many more will give you an adrenaline rush!

Parents can check out the Global Bazaar selling everything from unique gifts to funky clothing and even tasty culinary delights. Then sit back and relax to enjoy soothing foot and shoulder massages from the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped!

Entertainment & Refreshments

Plenty of mouthwatering food options will be available from Red Dot Cafe, Traveling Cow Lady and Prima Deli. Multi-talented CIS students will also be performing everyone’s favourite tunes throughout the day!

While it all sounds uber fun, nothing beats seeing it for yourself. Watch the video below from last year’s fair for a sneak peek of what you’re in for! See you there, mama!
