Last week, as I reminisced about a fabulous Italian holiday, my mouth watered thinking of all the delicious osteria food I enjoyed. I took a much shorter journey this time to an old favourite near River Valley Road, DISTRICT 10 and was pleasantly surprised by the revamped menu. The restaurant now has an Italiano makeover with Chef Luca at the helm and the new menu is a good reflection of the Chef’s belief in ‘working with what you know and doing it well’. Age old Italian classics like pizza, pasta and other dishes have been reinvented using quality ingredients.

Baked Eggplant

We started the meal with a delicious Baked Eggplant alla Parmigiana. Whilst this was a rather heavy appetizer, as an eggplant lover I was happy with the perfect combination of melted cheese and aubergines in a fragrant tomato base. The Slow Braised Tripe came next and was a hot favourite with our group. The preparation had just the right combination of tomatoes, chilies and parmesan cheese.

We went with tried and tested Italian staples for our mains and were satisfied with the Spaghetti Carbonara and the Pizza Diavola. The pasta was generously flavoured with black truffle, which gave it that extra punch, and the spicy salami pizza was wood fired, crisp and delicious.

The pizza, on the other hand, was a tad bland but had an unusual combination of toppings that included mushrooms, pancetta ham, zucchini and a runny fried egg. The Black Ink Tagliolini with generous portions of jumbo crab meat in tomato basil sauce was another hit with our group. As always, we ended our meal on a sweet note and thoroughly enjoyed the New York Cheese Cake. Other desserts on the menu include the popular Tiramisu and the warm Chocolate Lava Cake.
