Looking for the best breast pumps to check out in Singapore? Here’s a handy guide for breastfeeding mamas
Buying a breast pump is a big decision when you’re breastfeeding – it can aid in increasing your milk supply, and will be a big help when you return to work after maternity leave! So which one should you choose?
Things to consider when choosing a breast pump:
Is it heavy?
Do you need one that’s easy to take on commute, or does weight not matter if you’ll only be pumping at home?
Is it loud?
Some breast pumps are quieter than others, so it’s worth reading the reviews to see what other mamas have to say about its sound.
Can you pump hands-free?
Most older models will require a hands-free pumping bra, but there are also some nifty new breast pumps that are so discreet that you can pump under your shirt while out in public!
How much does it cost?
Are you willing to spend more on a convenient, ticks-all-boxes model, or can you compromise on some of the functions for affordability?
We’ve listed out the best breast pumps nursing mamas can find in Singapore (and abroad!), plus tried-and-tested Sassy Mama faves!

LoveAmme is a homegrown brand that’s made a global name for themselves as the creators of the world’s first customisable breast pumps. With five breast shield sizes and three T-joint sizes (uncommon for most breast pumps!) to suit various bottles on the market, you can get the best fit for a comfortable pumping experience.
TailorMade Pro: LoveAmme’s Hospital-grade Breast Pump
The TailorMade Pro is the only breast pump with a massaging suction that’s as gentle as expressing by hand. Combined with three skillfully-engineered pump expression modes and their FlexSkin Silicone Breast Shields, comfort is key when pumping with the TailorMade Pro. The silicone breast shields are some of the softest when compared against other brands in the market, and conform to the breasts well. One of its special features is its Deep Expression Phase, which allows for better extraction of breast milk by stimulating breast compression during pumping. This phase also helps mamas with flat or inverted nipples to better empty their breasts.
There’s also an option for individual breast settings, with a fab memory function that remembers the settings from your previous session to save you the hassle of reselecting your customised cycle settings. Plus, its closed system creates a complete barrier between milk collection components and the pump mechanism, to prevent your milk from getting contaminated. While the TailorMade Pro is certified hospital-grade, it’s still great for pumping while you’re out and about thanks to the in-built rechargeable battery. It can be easily recharged using any USB power options, including powerbanks!
MadeTo Travel: Great for On-the-go
Need something more compact for your outings? The MadeToTravel Double Breast Pump is easy to use and fits in your handbag (featherlight at just 224g)! The silent pump is quiet and discreet (no more loud, awkward ergh…ergh… sounds), can be used as a single or double pump, and also has a built-in rechargeable battery. Its unique Dual Stimulation Phase creates a combination of both short and long suctions, designed to help mothers who have difficulty achieving letdown by better stimulating the breasts and helping to relieve engorged breasts. The MadeTo Travel is also equipped with TurboPlus – a silent portable double-pumping powerhouse function to extract milk in the shortest time, so you can do it even while you are on video calls or in between running errands!
Price range: $583.60 – $633.90

“The Medela Pump in Style Advanced has to be one of the OGs in the breast pump market. I loved that I could easily strengthen the suction with the handy dial, and it was fairly easy to assemble once I got the hang of it! The stimulation function often released my letdown within seconds, which was encouraging for me as a first-time mama. Mine came with its own bag that was easy to carry around, with the option to remove it to be placed in my other bags. It’s also easy to get replacement parts affordably should you need to change the tubes, flanges or membranes.”

After having baby #2, I was lucky enough to get my hands on The Willow Pump, the wireless, wearable breast pump that came out in the U.S. in 2017 (when it took the global tech gadget convention CES by storm). Sleek and quiet, the Willow Pump works with an app to monitor your output, is easy to clean, and is quite portable (I often pumped in team meetings!). In 2020 Willow released its third generation pump, with improved suction automation that in testing led to women pumping 20% more milk on average compared to older Willow models.
I loved being able to wear the Willow without being attached to a noisy machine by cumbersome wires, and the app was super cool and informative. The two pumps together aren’t much bigger than a grapefruit — super easy to stick in your purse of suitcase for traveling. The only downside: the milk bags are not reusable, and can get quite expensive if you’re pumping a few times a day. If you’re able to have a friend or relative send it to you from the U.S., though, it’s definitely worth a look.
The Willow Pump is available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada for US$499 (they also have a shop on Amazon, and certain accessories are available for purchase/international shipping on Amazon.sg).

“The first time I breastfed, I got myself a manual pump, yes one of those where you’re actually milking yourself and it was a total disaster, on top of my total breastfeeding failure overall. With the second baby, I was determined to “get it right”. I’d been to countless baby fairs in Singapore and I keep seeing one brand of electric pumps that piqued my interest: Spectra. I was really unsure about getting it and kept thinking that perhaps European & American brands would be better (old school thinking, right?). But after reading many reviews, I went ahead and I’m super happy with it. Many of the functionalities can also be found on other brands, like the massage function to stimulate milk ducts before the actual pumping. I especially loved the fact that it’s hospital grade AND easy to transport. AND rechargeable (so no pesky cables if you’re pumping outside your home!). Often you have to choose between these 3 key features for me but this Spectra model (Spectra S1 Plus) had it all!”

They’re also useful for relieving engorgement in a pinch. These are huge lifesavers in the early newborn days and can help to easily build a breastmilk stash in your freezer for emergencies.
