At Sassy Mama we’ve been huge fans of Jamie’s Italian at Vivo City from the moment it opened to much fanfare last year, so you can imagine our excitement when we found out it was launching a brand new weekend breakfast menu this month!

Served each Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 to 11:30am, the very reasonably-priced menu includes heaps of breakfast classics like pancakes, scrambled eggs & salmon, sausage and veggie butties, and of course the full English breakfast (“The Works”), served up Naked Chef-style.

The menu reflects Jamie’s signature approach, using healthy, sustainable ingredients that maximise flavour and ensure you and the kiddos won’t be loading up on sugar and other junk.

We loved the “American-style” bacon and banana pancakes, featuring super-fluffy pancakes (apparently a favourite with Jamie’s daughters) and delectable outdoor-reared streaky bacon. It ranked among the best bacon we’ve had in Singapore – a little bit crispy, a little bit sweet, and oh-so flavourful. You can also get pancakes with mixed berries and marscapone, and the fantastic kids’ menu features an option with toffee sauce (I didn’t say he uses no sugar!).

Other kids’ menu highlights include soft-boiled eggs with toasted soldiers (no worries mamas, adults can get soldiers too if they’re so inclined!), freedom range scrambled eggs, and kids’ toasted granola. There’s even a super-cute babycino for budding café enthusiasts.

On the lighter side, we devoured the “Brilliant berry breakfast” with mixed berry compote, smashed toasted nuts (delish!), creamy artisanal yoghurt and sweet honey. Jamie’s classic “Smashed spicy avocado” on fresh-baked toasted ciabatta, served with vine-roasted cherry tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce, has also been a big hit.

For maximum value (and flavours!), “The Works” English fry-up is the way to go, featuring Toulouse sausage, pork & honey sausage, outdoor-reared streaky bacon, Freedom Range egg (choice of style), vine-roasted cherry tomatoes, homemade baked beans, garlic & thyme oven-roasted Portobello mushroom, fresh spinach and toast. Whew! We worked up an appetite just listing all those yummy ingredients! And if meat’s not your thing, not to worry mamas: there’s a “Veggie Works” option as well.

On the drinks front, there’s a full range of fresh juices and smoothies, along with gorgeous Musetti coffee and Gryphon teas. They’ve also got brunch staples like Mimosas, Bloody Marys and Bellinis. It’s truly brunch done right, mamas!

We were a bit nervous about encountering weekend hordes, as the restaurant built up a bit of a rep for long queues when it first opened last year, but were delighted to find a lively, bright space that wasn’t crowded but was by no means dead. Service was attentive and friendly, too! To allay any concerns about crowds, though, you can always make reservations ahead of time.

With the restaurant’s lovely waterfront terrace along the Harbourfront Promenade, it’s a pretty sweet spot for parents to kick back with a Sunday morning paper while the littlies run around the outdoor space (or play with the provided colouring sheets and crayons). It’s perfect to combine with a spot of holiday shopping, but we’ve already resolved to make lots of visits in 2015!

Sassy Mama tip: you can book a table through their website! Opening hours: Breakfast Sat-Sun from 9:30-11:30am; lunch and dinner served daily from 11.30am – 11pm
