Looking for ways to keep the kiddos occupied over June school holidays? Head to S.E.A. Aquarium for Singapore’s first marine-themed educational and creative fair!

I am always on the hunt for a fun event that takes me to a great place to boot, and the Imagine|Native: Creative Fest for Kids now on at Resorts World Sentosa is exactly that. On from now until Sunday, 12 June, it features a wide variety of activities to encourage a better understanding of marine life and conservation, along with encouraging young readers. It’s at the Maritime Experiential Museum at the S.E.A. Aquarium on Sentosa, and my goodness, our Singapore aquarium is truly a marvel!

Imagine Native: things to do in singapore

I love aquariums—no sun, easy for the bub to see animals moving, pram-friendly—but I have never seen an aquarium like this one at Resorts World Sentosa. I truly was blown away by the giant ship model, and my 2-year-old son kept pointing at the giant giraffe on board. The cultural displays were gorgeous, and the huge anchors hanging from the ship left my son speechless, mouth hanging open.

Each day kicks off with a kids’ crafting session from 10:05 to 10:55am, followed by various storytelling sessions, meet-and-greets and stage performances.

the imagine native book fair collected over 10,000 books for underprivileged kids in singapore

All this distraction gave me time to look at the books. Part of this event is a book fair, and they have quite a variety for all ages and interests. I especially love the books I picked up about Lee Kuan Yew—my almost-5-year-old daughter loves learning about him. Books are 15% off at the fair. They have a massive display of some of the 10,000+ book donations they collected to benefit children from low income homes—a great sight to spur a conversation about giving and community. If you have a budding writer at home, this fest is perfect for them—local authors will be reading their books during storytelling sessions, and I am sure they would love a quick chat with an aspiring writer.

Imagine Native: story time at sentosa

My 2-year-old son enjoyed the shows that featured an engaging pirate and his sidekicks, The Fin-tastic Fishy Friends. There are a ton of special shows, book readings, craft activities, and more—just check the event calendar to find an activity sure to please your little ones. They even have a sea star petting station and a manta ray naming contest. This truly is an event with something for everyone (I think kids up to the age of 7 would enjoy), and you can even plan a visit to the aquarium after or have a walk through Sentosa to enjoy the day. Don’t forget to bring a towel if your little one loves a run through the jumping fountain feature outside the aquarium. Tickets are $5 online for adults, $3 for kids, and include a goody bag worth $25.

Imagine | Native will be on at S.E.A. Aquarium at Resorts World Sentosa daily from 10am to 6:30pm. Check the event calendar for specific programme and activity timings.
