Mama, have we got great news for you!
If you live around River Valley and wanted a new place to call ‘home’, then welcome to Erwin’s Gastrobar where you’ll be able to laze over breakfast on the weekend or get together with friends for a casual dinner and drinks. This new spot is conveniently located at Valley Point Shopping Centre, and is the sister establishment to the original Erwin’s at Marina Bay Financial Centre, already a super-popular after-work hangout.
Erwin’s represents a modern and urban mix between a diner and a gastrobar, serving up honest and hearty pub grub to complement the thirst-quenching selections of beer on draft. Unsatisfied with just a single menu throughout the day, ERWIN’S kicks it up by offering breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch and happy hour menus.
I decided to check out Erwin’s on a Sunday morning as I’d heard great things about its Sunday brunch. And I was not disappointed! For starters, I can’t think of many other places that serve a brunch menu from 10am – 5pm! Perfect for morning meal, Friday and Saturday night hangovers, a light breakfast after working out at the gym upstairs or a late, late lunch.
And they’ve got plenty of outdoor space, so feel free to drop in while taking the dog out for a walk – they even have water bowls for them while you sit and enjoy your coffee. But what I liked most about the place was its cool, welcoming ambience. Warm lights, a large blackboard running the entire length of the wall highlighting the specials, and bar stools around a long table – a must for that gathering with friends on Sunday morning or happy hour after work.
Back to the menu! Sandwiches, waffles, burgers, pasta, healthy salads and bigger main meals – it’s all here. There is a great selection of freshly baked goodies and rolls to go with your morning cuppa or glass of fresh juice, or breakfast egg items such as Scrambled Eggs Salmon ($16). But for me, what’s brunch without the highly recommended [by yours truly] All Day Breakfast ($18)? Button mushrooms, sausages, a hash brown, grilled tomatoes and smoky baked beans all atop perfect sunny side up eggs, with thick toast naturally – delish!
Oh and don’t forget to order a side of thick cut raisin toast with a side of jam, Nutella or peanut butter ($5). You know you can’t go wrong with this one. My partner in crime had the Brunch Burger – a gorgeous juicy beef patty with a fried egg, bacon, avocado, chipotle mayo and onion chutney, served with your choice of fries or salad (for a more-than-reasonable $19).
Also highly recommended is the Steak Sandwich of Black Angus – think rib eye, rocket, roasted pepper and tomato relish, Parmesan and honey mustard on ciabatta bread served with fries or salad ($22). Sounds mouth-watering, doesn’t it? Pair that with the totally vegetarian and gluten free Halloumi Salad – with white beans, griddled broccoli, roasted eggplant, rocket and tahini dressing ($14.50), and your day is off to a great start, mama.
Erwin’s also does a special kids menu, where little ones have a choice of sausages, sliders, fish ‘n’ chips or pasta (all under $10), so it’s the ideal family restaurant too. It’s seriously all about having a great time at great value.
So mama, the next time you’re looking to chill out over happy hours, just wanting a quiet catch up over coffee with a friend, or looking for a great place to take the family out to, I highly recommend trying out Erwin’s at Valley Point. I think you’re going to like it.
