For the very first time, the Tanglin Neighbourhood Committee played host to the inaugural Pets’ Day Out at the Eco Gardens within Singapore Botanic Gardens (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

The idea for Pets’ Day Out stemmed from the common love for one’s pets and the Botanic Gardens. The organizers wanted to transform a section of the gardens to create a fun-filled afternoon for folks who came on down with their families and furkids for this non-profit, community bonding event.

Despite the heat, people poured in, bringing their furkids and picnic baskets in tow for a lovely, relaxing afternoon. Everyone was told to come prepared for rain or shine.

The event kicked off with many pet-related activities. Experts were on-site for pet owners to have a chat with. The Visiting Vets, and The Snoring Dog (official pet nutritionist) were there to dish out advice. Awesome Pawsome (official trainer) was delighted to help out and recruit pets for a good cause at the Dover Park Hospice.

Who can resist freebies? There were sampling of all-natural, preservative free dog treats from The Barkery (official pet bakery/bistro) and product demonstration from new kids on the block, Jingo! (official pet subscription box). Some very colourful and funky looking express pet makeovers were also spotted courtesy of Pet Passion (official groomer).

Not forgetting the non-four legged friends, the organizers arranged for an awesome Live Band, the Subwoofers for entertainment. Momolato, the official gelato artisans, created a tropical pineapple flavour just for Pets’ Day Out in addition to their signature watermelon-kiwi popsicles. A drinks station was set up with bottled water and coconut water kindly sponsored by UFC Refresh to keep everyone hydrated.

Fringe activities such as balloon sculpting, caricature drawing, calligraphy writing (Sow in Love x Yahui), lucky dips were all happening at the same time. Photographers (Todd Beltz and Waki from Memom) were roving to make sure all the candid shots were captured including registration of guests to win fabulous pet prizes like party packages, barkday cakes, pet swims and luxurious 5-day day-care at The Wagington (official pet hotel). There was something for everyone!

The force behind the event planning were The Party Doctors, who curated the entire event paying attention to every detail from the design of the event poster to the paw-print balloons to the blue colour themed mats, gifts of appreciation to the sponsors, all the way to the very useful goodie bags (which had chic pet tags, poo bags all in a recyclable eco-bag) that were given out. Pets’ Day Out was also exclusively covered by Clubpets, Singapore’s longest running pet magazine.

The event was graced with the presence of Dr Nigel Taylor, the Group Director of the Singapore Botanic Gardens and the guest of honour, Mr Melvin Yong, Minister of Parliament. At the end of the event, apart from the prizes given to the lucky winners, all the sponsors were also presented with beautiful, customized quotes written by Sow In Love and @tjalipio.

Pets’ Day Out was definitely a huge hit! For even more photos be sure to check out its official Facebook album.
