Want a Christmas Buffet that won’t break the bank? The Sassy Mama team went hog wild at the Festive Buffet at Pan Pacific Orchard, Singapore and it did not disappoint!
Last week the Sassy Mama team celebrated the holiday season together at the Festive Buffet at 10 Claymore, the main restaurant within Pan Pacific Orchard, Singapore Hotel. From gorgeous gingerbread houses to succulent roast turkey, there is SO much to choose from, mama!
Before getting to the main event, we did a lap around the restaurant (Buffet strategy 101) to get a handle on all the offerings. Highlights include a fresh sashimi bar, delectable fresh olives, a range of yummy cheeses and a nice array of local dishes like Char Kway Teow and dim sum. The desserts looked amazing too but I’ll get to that later!
We actually enjoyed a special preview of the Magical Family Celebration (available only on Christmas Day) that includes everything in the buffet along with special extras like Char-grilled Cape Byron Angus Prime Rib and Portuguese Linguica Sausage, not to mention perfectly Christmassy decorations and festive table settings in a private banquet setting. Priced at $888, it can serve up to 10 people with pricing for additional adults and kids at $88/$44 per person.
After some light snacking (there’s a fab salad bar, too), we were treated to a cornucopia of meats and roasted seasonal vegetables. My personal favourite was the Roasted Turkey with Cranberry Chutney, though my more carnivorous colleagues raved about the Herb Crusted Organic Rack of Lamb and mouthwatering Blackmore Wagyu. Just in case that’s not enough meat for you, mama, there’s also Honey Baked Ham.
It’s all slow-cooked to perfection, and complimented by hearty veggies and fixins’ like homemade chestnut stuffing, giblet sauce, baked macaroni and cheese, Brussels Sprouts (our resident Belgian gave them two big thumbs up), and sweet potatoes.
Our table was beautifully festooned with holiday cheer, including a stunning gingerbread house freshly baked in-house and a delightful array of Christmas cookies. Our hands-down favorite dessert, though, was the Rolled Genoise Log Le Chocolate Noir, a sinfully creamy confection that was easily one of the most delicious chocolate desserts I’ve ever tasted. I may or may not have helped myself to seconds on that one.
The rest of the dessert buffet was just as tasty: from fresh fruit and ice cream, to warm bread pudding, crème brûlée and a chocolate fountain, anyone can find something to please their appetite for sweets.
One of the best features of the buffet is its price: just $42 per person for lunch, Monday to Friday (it’s $69 for weekday dinner). It’s only $48 for lunch on the weekends, and $58 for lunch on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. For the amount of high-quality food you’re getting, mama, that is a STEAL! Following our festive lunch (which also included many toasts with Prosecco, of course), we all headed out on our separate ways. The hotel’s convenient location just off Orchard Road makes it the perfect spot for lunch in between Christmas shopping (or all-important holiday grooming sessions). The buffet is available every day through 1 January, 2017, with a variety of other special festive meals on offer, too. Book your spot today, mama, and happy eating!
