You’re invited to CIS for a fun morning where kids can get involved in experiential learning activities in the new Outdoor Discovery Centre. Kids, you’ll get to transform into archaeologists as you dig for artefacts!

Ever wondered what your kids might get up to in a school that prioritises experiential learning? You and your kids are invited to an Experiential Learning Open House at Canadian International School on 18 May 2023! Kids will get to participate in a hands-on excavation activity in CIS’s Outdoor Discovery Centre while parents get to see firsthand how experiential learning works, and its impact on kids.

CIS Experiential Learning Open House on 18 May 2023

Calling all budding archaeologists and curious minds! Once you arrive at the CIS Outdoor Discovery Centre, look for the dig site where the fun awaits! You’ll get to sweep, dig and look for artefacts using various archaeological tools. Bring your sun hat and be ready to delve into the past and make connections to the present!

Parents, as you and your child unearth objects, you will ‘Define, Connect and Explain’ the artefacts as you look for the connections, learn about the impact they had on civilization over time and share your findings. This is what happens daily in a regular CIS class – teachers ‘Define, Connect and Explain’ as kids experience hands-on learning to deepen their understanding of core topics.

Why Experiential Learning?

CIS’s Experiential Learning Coordinator, Christa Craats, will share how programmes such as Open Minds and STEAM are carefully designed and developed before being integrated into the CIS curriculum to ensure students develop both the academic and softer skills they’ll need for a fast-changing world.

Christa says: “This approach is actively engaging and supports a deeper dive into topics. As a grade 1 student engages in these experiences, they study the form and function of the artefacts as tools and technologies and critically think about how these artefacts have impacted people over time”.

CIS has developed its expertise and leadership in experiential learning over the last 20 years, being the first school in Singapore to introduce the STEAM approach as well as Open Minds, where children learn in real-world settings. If you’d like your child to benefit from pioneer approaches to education, why not head on over to the Open House to get a true taste of campus life?

Parents and children are welcome, so sign up to try the approach for yourself, see learning in action and ask the CIS experts your questions!
