Home Away From Home For Diverse Nationalities

Anthea Chuah, her husband and two teenage sons, Tyler and Trevor have been members of The American Club since they moved to Singapore in 2007 from Portland, Oregon. Anthea is Singaporean, while her husband, Hoa, is American. Moving to Singapore and joining The American Club was a homecoming for their family, in more ways than one. When the kids were younger, they spent all their weekends at the Club, being shuttled between swimming, tennis and taekwondo lessons, and of course, summer camps. The Club is the family’s home away from home – from celebrating American holidays and traditions to familiar comfort food and connecting with people from all over the world. Anthea and her family have had countless birthday celebrations and special occasions celebrated at the Club, and they love the festive-themed activities.

“As members, we have formed many friendships through classes, activities and simply socializing in Club spaces at The American Club. We feel that the Club’s staff form an integral part of building a sense of community and connection, in particular, several long-serving team members who have witnessed my children grow up! I remember a few years ago, a Youth team member visited our home with a ‘get well soon’ card and gift for my son after he broke his arm during a taekwondo lesson in the Club. The American Club Celebrates 75 Years of Community

In 1948, The American Club was officially established with just 146 members on a rented balcony on the fifth floor of one of Singapore’s first skyscrapers – the Cathay Building at Sophia Road. All it had was a bar and two second-hand slot machines, and was manned by a total of five employees. Today, The American Club’s membership is 75 times larger than when it was first established. This year, The American Club is celebrating their 75th anniversary and they have a big celebration planned for members and their guests with live music and free-flow food and drinks!

Every September, the Club organizes a themed Birthday Bash – an exciting night of live music, entertainment and free-flow of food and drinks. It is one party that many Members and their Guests look forward to each year. The exciting news is that this year you’ll have the chance to attend!
