How great is it that there is so much available these days to keep kiddos and parents entertained? But also, how do we choose the best binge-able TV without wasting our precious time on shows that are just so-so? We get it, we are busy mamas too – so we asked our team what their fave shows were and guess what? Many of them are available on Disney+. No wonder it’s the streaming platform of choice for many (particularly during this time of inflation) with its value-for-money yet high-quality content! We’re talking binge-able TV series and great movies for us adults, kids’ shows with great role models and positive messaging plus some family movies that you can watch with your kiddos! There’s something for everyone on Disney+ – you like K-dramas but your partner is into documentaries? Your littlest ones love Bluey and Disney shows but your older teen wants access to the Marvel series and trending content? Watch it all (and more) on Disney+!

We love the sheer volume of content on Disney+. It’s not just home to movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, there are literally thousands of hours of Hollywood entertainment and favourites as well as originals and exclusives productions from APAC region.

We asked mamas what they love about Disney+ and their fave shows:

1. Disney + shows with educational value

Bluey, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Doc McStuffins, Nat Geo’s Weird But True!

I love Disney+ for all the kids’ shows with educational value – and the Disney channel really comes into its own! For younger kids, there’s Bluey (a show featuring a blue puppy) which preschoolers love but is also fun for all ages, including parents. There’s lots of humour and is great for some parent and kid bonding time. Doc McStuffins is a show with lots of positive role models, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is a fun watch with problem-solving questions for preschoolers. The National Geographic content is always an educational watch. My kids love the Weird But True! series to discover quirky facts about the world!” – Carlijn, mum of a 10-year-old and a 7-year-old.

2. Disney + for Marvel and action lovers

Marvel Studios’ – Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Star Wars – The Mandalorian

“I love watching the Marvel Studios movies and series– if you’re new to Marvel start off with the very first Marvel Studios movie, the 2008 game-changing Iron Man – but our faves have to be the 2018 superhero film Black Panther with its jaw-dropping action, storyline and acting that has become a cultural movement. Select titles like these feature 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Surround Sound so the quality is top-notch – so important with these visually stunning shows! Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is also on Disney+ and we regularly watch (and rewatch) The Mandalorian and Star Wars content. My older kids are super excited about the new season of The Mandalorian streaming now!– Emilie, mum of two.

3. Disney + for Bingeable TV

How I Met Your Mother, Grey’s Anatomy, New Girl, black-ish

“I binge watch classics like American sitcom How I Met Your Mother, Grey’s Anatomy (American medical drama television), New Girl (Zooey Deschanel stars as single schoolteacher Jessica Day, who moves in with three guys – cue friendship dramas, fun and lots of laughs), Criminal Minds, Fleischman Is in Trouble (a mini-series about existential crisis – being in one’s forties and not having everything figured out), and Dopesick (an epic and spine-tingling watch about how one rich family who owned a pharma company fuelled the opioid crisis in America – based on a true story). We also love some comedy to relax at the end of the day and our favourites are The Simpsons, and for the adults not for kiddos – Modern Family and black-ish. I love the parental controls available to ensure kids are watching content suitable for their age – so even if we’re watching any of shows on the same device, once I switch off, the controls reset and in order to access any higher-rated shows again a pin code needs to be used.” – Michell, mum of two.

4. Disney + for family movies

Encanto, Frozen, Toy Story, Turning Red

“Friday night is Disney+ family movie night in our house and I love that there are so many great shows suitable for the whole family (depending on your kids’ ages – mine are 11 and 8). From Rise (a drama based on the true story of three young Nigerian-Greek brothers, Giannis, Thanasis and Kostas Antetokounmpo, who emigrate to the United States to compete in the NBA), to Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again (a family-friendly animated comedy with Ben Stiller as an inventor who takes a job as a night watchman working in the Museum of Natural History) to Big Shot  – a TV series about a pro basketball coach who gets fired from his job and begrudgingly takes a job at an all-girls high school. Disney+ has a heap of animated movies for families with younger kids on the Disney channel- Encanto, Frozen, The Incredibles, Toy Story, The Lion King and Turning Red to name just a few!” – Beate, mum of two.

BLACKPINK THE MOVIE, j-hope IN THE BOX

“I confess, I love K-dramas (Korean dramas for the uninitiated) – from Snowdrop, a romantic melodrama to Call It Love and the suspenseful Big Mouth. Exclusively on Disney+, there’s also BLACKPINK THE MOVIE – a documentary on the chart-topping Korean pop group, and BTS star J-Hope’s documentary j-hope IN THE BOX – a film that chronicles the making of the singer’s first solo album Jack in the Box, as well as his history-making performance at Lollapalooza. I love that when I’m bingeing K-content the kids can be watching their content thanks to the option of having seven profiles with four simultaneous streams on Disney+. Arguing about who gets to watch what and when is a thing of the past!– Serene, mum of three.

6. Disney + for ‘Shorts’

Bao, Frozen Fever, Tangled Ever After

“There are lots of fun ‘shorts’ available on Disney+, these are short movies that play under 10 minutes. I let my son watch them after school while I take a shower – it’s the perfect length for some screen time without things spiralling into watching TV all afternoon! From the cute 8-minute film Frozen Fever which is great for kids who just can’t get enough of the wonderful songs from Frozen to Tangled Ever After. My son’s favourite short has to be Bao – a really sweet short animation about how a Chinese mom’s life changes while watching her son grow up.” – Rumaishah, mum of a 5-year-old and 1-year-old.

Disney + subscription and features

So now you know what to watch – here’s the geeky bit on how to watch it, and what it will view like. For selected titles, Disney+ features 4K Ultra HD (that means the quality is amazeballs), Dolby Surround Sound, is IMAX Enhanced and – here’s the best part – offers commercial-free viewing, all at an amazing value – a Disney+ subscription is just $11.98/month or save over 15% when you buy the annual Disney+ subscription.

We mentioned before that there’s something for everyone on Disney+ but how does the whole family share one subscription?  Luckily there’s the option to download content for on-the-go accessibility across ten devices and you can create up to seven profiles with four simultaneous streams! So that means every member of the family can watch their own shows simultaneously – though we recommend snuggling down and watching together when you can!

The March school holidays are nearly here! It’s the perfect time to arrange some family movie nights and have access to education programmes for the kiddos plus exclusive content only on Disney+!
