Pongal Light Up Ceremony

Official opening of Pongal Celebrations in Little India, Event Marquee at Campbell Lane. Guest of Honour, Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth will be there to grace the event. Audience will be treated with a variety of folk based entertainment themed ‘ Netru, Indru, Naalai’
Animal Farm – Heritage Carnival
11 – 19 January, Hastings Road
Visit the exhibit of live animals such as the cows, bulls, calves and goats! Cattles are honoured during the Pongal Festival. They play a pivotal role to ensure a bountiful harvest for Farmers. Enjoy this great encounter and snap a selfie with the cattle!

Eventful evenings filled with a variety of cultural performances expressing the rich Tamil traditions and cultures. Different types of folk dancing and singing performances awaits you!
Pongal Street Decor
11 January – 10 February, Serangoon Rd, 7pm – 12am
The 2019 Theme is “Agriculture”. Grand colourful lights decorate the streets of Little India for this Pongal season. The stunning display of this year’s Pongal theme are lit up at stunning display of this year’s Pongal theme are lit up along Serangoon Rd. Motif of colourful Pongal pots, crops, farmer, cattle and colourful kolam are expected as the designs for the street decor.
Pongal Heritage Experience

A variety of interesting activities are opened up for you to learn the culture and significance of Pongal Festival (Harvest). Join in and create an exclusive Heritage Experience for you! Embark on an exciting & informative Heritage Trail, through a suite of mock ups and interactive sites. Learn all about Rice and Dairy Farming. Begin your walk by greeting the cows and goats stationed at the entrance.

To usher in the month of “Thai” and celebrate Pongal, an extravagant show is staged by local and foreign celebrities! Catch Star Vijay Channel’s Celebrities and immerse into the festive celebrations.

Experience the sweetness of Pongal (Sweet Rice Pudding). Authentically cooked with cow’s milk, rice, jiggery and pods of cardamom served with raisins and cashew nuts. Savour the taste of Pongal, distributed at Little India.

Celebrate Pongal at IHC! Join in the festivities as they offer free admission to all visitors. Look forward to a wide range of activities that include craft demonstrations, craft activities, food tasting, traditional games and performances.

Mattu Pongal Celebrations (Honouring the Cattle)
16 January, Hastings Road, 4pm – 7pm
Let’s honour the cattle that work in the paddy fields all year round to provide harvest for farmers. On this special day dedicated to the cattle, Thanksgiving prayers would be conducted for the cattle at the mini animal farm. The cattle will be gloriously decorated with majestic glitters and garlands, fed with the traditional sweet rice, Pongal.

Come forward as a community and let’s make Pongal together! Participants to form groups of 4 or more to cook authentic Pongal (Sweet Rice Pudding) with the provided ingredients. Stand a chance to win attractive prizes!
