A Date with Tradition
21 August – 5 September 2026
P.S.A. Bookmark this if you’re always looking for free things to do on weekends with the kids! A Date With Tradition is back for three weekends at the Stamford Arts Centre, and it’s packed with activities with a good dose of traditional culture with a contemporary edge. It follows the Singapore Night Festival’s theme of ‘Myths and Legends’, so you can expect engaging family-friendly experiences surrounding folklore, stories, traditions and cultural practices from across the various communities in Singapore.
It’s a rare chance to catch some unique live cultural performances, such as Indian classical dances, Chinese opera with vibrant costumes and even gamelan storytelling. There are also plenty of free drop-in activities including traditional games, a pop-up bookstore, a monkey scavenger hunt, batik ink rubbing, Chinese calligraphy silk screen printing and even a community mural where you can paint on a wall! If you want to get even more hands-on, check out one of the many cultural workshops available, ranging from origami lamp-making to crafts workshops ($5 – $20). Don’t miss out the interactive installations that come alive at night, as well as the youth-led hangout sessions so everyone can join in on the fun.
