A Date with Tradition
23 August – 7 September 2024, Fridays & Saturdays
A Date with Tradition, organised by Arts House Limited is all about connecting with Singapore’s roots. Held at Stamford Arts Centre in conjunction with the Singapore Night Festival, this three-week event is brimming with celebrations of Singapore’s multicultural arts–all of which invite attendees to immerse themselves in interactive programmes and activities.
Take part in an array of traditional workshops and activities such as Indian dance and a workout inspired by Chinese Opera body movements. There will also be old-school games and traditional activities like weaving, hand beading, an upsized five stones, pick-up sticks and eraser battles. Be sure to catch live performances stemming from multicultural traditional arts, too. Get your cameras ready for art installations that come alive at night, including a blacklight mural that’ll transport you back to the yesteryears and a miniature house sculpture inspired by the children’s singing game ‘In and Out the Cherry Window.’
Mark your calendars for these fun programmes, too:
- 31 Aug: A Sea of Stories – The Boy, King, Island & Beast ($5/pax) where kids get to try playing the Kompang.
- 7 Sep: Minhwa Hands-On Workshop ($5/pax) where kids will learn the Korean folk art of Minhwa painting.
- 6 & 7 Sep: Fledgelings Take Flight – TAC Youth Opera Showcase (Free) – classic Chinese opera pieces.
