Whoever said that noisy kids, fancy hotel restaurants and endless glasses of champagne just don’t mix clearly hasn’t heard about Edge. Nestled away on the third floor of the Pan Pacific Hotel at Marina Square, this completely renovated and revamped restaurant launched their new Sunday Champagne brunch experience earlier this year and boy… is it a feast of gastronomic proportions! We popped along recently to put it to the ultimate Sassy Mama test – by bringing our kids along too!
Held from 12noon to 4pm every Sunday, Edge is at the top of the pile for decadent weekend brunches, with more than seven live cooking stations available for diners to pull up a plate and order something fresh from. Resident chefs prepare yummy bites according to preference, but if you prefer something already prepped, there’s a smorgasbord of other delish options to choose from… whatever your stomach desires you’re bound to find it here! Their extensive menu features goodies such as Jet Fresh Boston lobster, 3 types of French and Canadian Oysters, Wagyu Beef (grilled upon request), Suckling Pig, Prime Rib, Duck Confit Ravioli (a Sassy Mama fave), a two-metre cheeseboard featuring 30 varieties of artisanal cheese, fresh handmade pastas, as well as Satays, Tandooris, Laksas, Dim Sum and even Chicken Rice!
What we especially loved about the space at Edge is just how big it is! Whether you want a big table for a long lunch with a few families, or prefer a smaller gathering with the hubby, the restaurant has so many nooks and crannies and is so filled with happy chatter that it’s perfect for everybody — with kids or without. Our 4-year-old was happy to sit up to the table with us and choose his own lunch (for the record, he chose fresh fruit and chicken rice… just sayin’) but they can also provide highchairs and kids cutlery, you just need to let them know when you make your reservation. And our biggest learning of the day? Pace yourself. This is no slap and dash meal with the kids… this is a loooooong lunch, where it’s almost guaranteed you’ll need a nap by the end of it. Start slowly and only take a sample from each food offering to avoid a food coma.
And for the kids? While mama happily sips her bottomless glass of champagne (or beer, or wine, or cocktail — pick your poison), the kiddos are free to romp around the designated kids playroom. Tucked away in the far corner of the resto, the room has padded floors for crawlers, a few well-loved toys, and a TV with DVD player (yes, they were playing Frozen on the day we were there!).
The decadent, sugar laden dessert buffet is also a hit with kids – we didn’t tell our 4-year-old about the 20-odd desserts available until he’d eaten a decent lunch. And as expected his little eyes lit up when he saw the ice-cream bar, the chocolate truffles, the brownies, and the bowl of marshmallows. A definite winner with the kids and we definitely tucked in too!
Sassy Mama Tips: We’d definitely recommend getting there right on 12noon to get the most bang for your buck. This one doesn’t come cheap so you’ll want to get stuck into it as soon as possible. There’s loads of space for strollers if you’re luckily enough to have a baby who naps in the pram, and if you book ahead of time do request one of the tables closest to the kids corner – not only does it have a pretty swish view back towards the Singapore Flyer, you also won’t have to worry about your munchkins slipping out the door unnoticed either.
Edge Pan Pacific’s Champagne Brunch is held every Sunday from 12noon to 4pm and is priced at $158++ per adult (inclusive of unlimited Veuve Clicquot champagne, wine, beer, and cocktails), $98++ for teens 12 to 17 (inclusive of unlimited soft drinks and juices) and $49++ for kids 7 to 11.
