Tried and tested December 2020

Editorial Team: Free Flow Drinks at Three Buns Quayside

Heading out for the evening and looking for a casual place for dinner and drinks that’s easy on the pocket? Check out Three Buns Quayside’s free flow on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5-8pm. For $59.90++ you and 7 friends can tuck into a free flow selection of drinks including draught beer, house wines, Cosmopolitans, Apple Martinis, prosecco and house pours with your choice of mixer plus get 10% off your food bill. The burgers here are the real deal – we are talking patties using 100% grass-fed, free-range, hormone and antibiotic-free beef and lamb from Australia and New Zealand. Buns are baked daily and sauces are house-made. The signature Baby Huey ($18) of Tasmanian Vintage beef patty, with ketchup, cheese, and pickles and the Rogan ($24) with lamb smothered in a rogan josh inspired sauce are delish! There’s even a menu of plant-based burgers and veggie burgers for those inclined. Whatever you do, do not miss the Broc Party ($14) of roasted broccoli salad with parmesan, miso-mayo and chilli! We loved the alfresco outdoor setting right next to the river (and there’s a playground in view if you are here with kiddos).

badger and fox singapore tanglin shopping

Marisa: Badger & Fox

This is one of my favourite stores for gift purchases. It is filled with stylish local and regional brands for home, fashion, and jewellery. A gift card for this store is always on my personal wish list! I’m still in love with my bracelet from Ashepa Lifestyle and my laptop case from Ruby Slippers is still in perfect condition after daily use over two years! Badger & Fox has an online shop, but it’s always fun to browse in store at their location in Tanglin Mall.

i am app daily affirmations

Nadia: ‘I am’ Affirmations App

I’m loving a new app I discovered called “I am”. It has tonnes of built-in affirmations that you can program to pop up on your phone through the day. It’s so delightful to hear that buzz from your phone and realise it’s not yet another message, but a beautiful affirmation and it always lifts me up to read them. Pre-set affirmations are around self-care, personal growth, love and relationships, stress and anxiety, gratitude, health and there are also affirmations just for kids. You can also create your own categories and add your own favourite affirmations. My daughter and I go through a few kids affirmations every night before bedtime since she has decided that she’s now outgrown bedtime stories and prefers to read on her own in bed!

impossible meat beef plant based

Syazana: Cooking with Impossible Foods

In our house we always have minced beef on hand to make everything from fried rice to porridge and pasta. And after tasting Impossible meat in various restaurants and loving it (hubby and I actually choose Impossible over real meat if it’s on the menu!) we were so excited to receive some frozen Impossible Meat Plant Based Beef for our home-cooked meals! It cooks and tastes just like the real thing, except it’s made using 87% less water, 89% less greenhouse gasses and 96% less land than real beef. Impossible is primarily made from soy protein, sunflower oil, and coconut oil, with Heme (which gives it that real beef taste). We made some spaghetti bolognese with ours and our helper didn’t even know we were cooking with a meat substitute – she couldn’t believe that it wasn’t actual beef! Impossible Meat Plant Based Beef is now available at nearly 100 NTUC FairPrice stores islandwide, and on RedMart.

whatsapp business

Beate: Shop WhatsApp Carts to Support Local

Shopping from your couch? That’s certainly my preference! Though I do get a pang of guilt that I only tend to use big brands like Amazon and other well-known retail who can afford to advertise. Now that WhatsApp has launched ‘Carts’ to its WhatsApp Business App, I tried out this new feature and found it a super easy way to shop local! Intrigued? The new Carts feature allows you to add a product like the above pictured pretty woven wall baskets from Airmocks (click here to chat on WhatsApp) from a business’ Catalog, and then you send the order as one message to the business. You don’t need to download a separate app – you can simply chat with businesses through the WhatsApp messenger app that you use every day. Other brands you can check out that are using Carts to make purchasing easier include Minimakers (click here to chat on WhatsApp) who sell fun designs of beeswax wraps as an alternative to disposable cling wraps and Candles of Light (click here to chat on WhatsApp) for handcrafted soy and beeswax candles that smell out of this world and Sunday Bedding (see below)! Once you’ve paid, the company will deliver the items to your door making this a super way to support local without leaving the house! Check out this handy video to see how Whatsapp Carts works.

sunday bedding towels

Syazana: Sunday Bedding Turkish Cotton Towels

While they’re best known for their luxurious bed linens, Sunday Bedding has recently expanded their range to offer loungewear and towels. I received a set of the 100% GOTS certified Turkish Cotton hand and bath towels and OMG, it feels like I’m being wrapped in a cloud after every shower. These towels are ultra plush thanks to the extra-long fibres, superb thickness and great absorbency – they make me feel like I’m on a staycation. They’re also supersized. The bath towels are 76cm x 142cm and the hand towels are pretty big at 50cm x 76cm, making them perfect for babies and toddlers!
