Smoulder Softcore Bakery: Yummy Lava Cakes

Great food discoveries are just around every corner in Singapore, and our latest find at Raffles City Shopping Centre (they’re also at China Square on Telok Ayer Street) made us particularly happy as it combines several Sassy Mama faves in one sweet little package: delicious tasting, sweet cakes, check. Gorgeous branding and attractive appearance (yep, we’re shallow like that) check. A huge selection of yummy-sounding flavours, check!

What is most exciting is that Smoulder’s freshly-baked goodies are not cupcakes (we confess we’re a little over the cupcake trend) but little molten lava cakes that you can either buy still-warm from the oven and oozy, or pop in your microwave at home to enjoy later. They’re bite-sized (practically) so they’re the ideal little treat that won’t make you feel too heavy, or too guilty for letting the kids have a little indulgence! Some of the twelve flavours on offer are a bit sophisticated-tasting for little palates (there’s plenty of real dark chocolate in the mix) but my daughter was a fan of the White Chocolate Lemon, which is pure sweetness.

We recommend trying the Signature Chocolate and the White Chocolate Pistachio flavours – as they come in such a cute little package they also make the ideal little hostess gift for a play-date or to bring to a dinner party (or just for sneaky post-bedtime munching at home of course!).

Smoulder’s lava cakes are $2.80 each, $8.20 for 3 pieces or $24 for 9 pieces.
