Sassy Scoop: Boogie and make music with Mini Maestros!

It can be really hard in Singapore to find classes for tiny ones which are fun (for both mama and baby!) and also encourage littles to learn through play. Thankfully local mamas Pei Ling and Sharon discovered Mini Maestros, a pre-school music programme originally hailing from Australia, and decided to bring the concept here to the little red dot!

Mini Maestros is a music-based system that follows a planned sequence of 40 lessons for each age group throughout the year, where children learn the elements of music through songs, dances and games. Classes start from the age of just 6 months (and run until 5 years old), and provide a gentle, safe and nurturing environment for early exploration and fostering a genuine love for music, song and dance. Mini Maestros is just the right level of stimulation for kids, without being overwhelming, so it’s the perfect way to dip your toe into trying scheduled activities.

Classes are held in intimate groups so you also get the chance to socialise with other mamas, as your little ones are also learning how to play as part of a group. Caring and engaging teachers lead the class and encourage older children to make musical decisions and contribute ideas in fun, improvisation activities, while the use of simple rhymes and repetition enhances language development. We went along to a class to check it out for ourselves and were impressed by the variety of activities on offer – from circle time to kick off the lesson, to the use of percussion instruments, puppets and props, there was never a dull moment!

A brand new Summer term (hurray for summer activities to get littlies out of the house!) is about to kick off from 12^th  July until 20^th September. Classes are held at a number of different locations around the island, from Serangoon to Dhoby Ghaut and Marine Parade, so it’s convenient too!
