How to get our munchkins speaking Mandarin is at the top of many Singapore mamas’ worry-lists, whether we think of ourselves as Tiger mothers or have a more chilled-out approach to learning! As much as we’d love to leave the studying to within school hours, if we want our littlies to achieve fluency, we need to make a commitment to extra enrichment. Thankfully for those of us who hate dragging our kids kicking and screaming to activities, EduGrove Mandarin Enrichment Centre is as popular with kids as it is with mamas!
EduGrove has a friendly, community vibe and is easy to find and access as it’s on the ground floor of the Pasir Ris Sports and Recreation Centre, close to Pasir Ris MRT station. With super-fun, engaged and warm teachers, they believe that learning Mandarin should be tons of fun (not stiff and tedious!) and so they include as many educational games, drama and arts and crafts activities as possible to create an energetic and interactive environment. While EduGrove’s programme supports the MOE Mandarin syllabus, they aim to get kids motivated to explore the language outside of a textbook. That means kids will love going to class!
There are programmes for all age ranges, kicking off with their adult-accompanied Mandarin playgroup, PlayGrove, for tinies aged 12-36 months, which we popped along to try out for ourselves. With energetic songs, games and crafts activities (as well as snack time of course!), toddlers won’t even realize they’re being immersed in the world of Putonghua! And starting learning early is the perfect way to gift your child with a lifelong love for language.
Pssst… So, if you’re looking for something constructive for your kiddos to do these coming summer holidays, EduGrove offer a range of holiday programmes in June with full-day or 3 hours a day for children in Nursery 2 to Primary 6 class years. These will really stretch and engage little learners with opportunities for creative writing, rhythmic body movement and improvised warm-up games.
